Very surprised to hear this! I hope to see this come to full fruition, as a old fan of those games. :)
Edit: Jaw hit the floor as I see a flood of backers by the second (thinking about it myself!). O.O

Steam Officially Starts Allowing Paid Mods In The Workshop, People Are Upset

Starting to conclude to myself, this isn't a moral issue at all like those people are claiming. People are unhappy, but I doubt it has to do with mods charging for $. Of course, people will naturally shift fingers because common ground for "tradition" is easier than sticking their brains to a logical argument.

Quoting: Comandante oardoMods must stay FREEAs we were discussing in IRC, modders can still choose whether or not it can be free.

The Banner Saga Is Finally Available For Linux

Yeah, I bought this game awhile back in December since I seen their Linux plans. :)
Though, this is my issue I am having (quote from Steam forum):
Though, this is my issue I am having (quote from Steam forum):
Quoting: keizgonHello, I'm running the game on a slightly older laptop, but I'm unaware of how much VRAM is being sucked out (loading screen takes ~10 min to load, so I assume a lot is being cached). Would appreciate it being listed for game's min/requirements, if mine is insufficient enough. It's probably just me (old laptop), but they seem to be quite responsive to my reply. Just gave them a log file and full system spec file via email to hopefully fix it. If they can't, that's fine, but my main request is that they outline a better system requirement list than "X RAM; X HDD space" for future customers though. I mean, if it's using OpenGL3+ like Transistor, would like to know since I can't run that on this chipset.
Title screen runs with 1 FPS, video scenes run a solid 60 FPS, in-game runs 1-2 FPS. I was expecting maybe 10-15 FPS at least? Isn't this game meant to run on tablets? :P
Laptop Model: HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC
OS: Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit)
Graphics: Intel HD 3000 series
Resolution: 1600x900
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Glad to see this come to Linux though, much appreciated.

@Aspyr_Blair
I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm curious about something. Have you guys (or anybody else in this business) ever had success requesting to port Japanese made games? Or is there a cultural/language barrier behind such companies to make this near impossible in the future?

Considering the context of the quote, it is a game already out and likely critically acclaimed. I also bet it's Skyrim (which would be awesome since it would be our first Bethesda title). Unless it's Bioshock 1 and/or 2. Regardless, I'm up for any surprise. :)
Steam Hardware Survey For March 2015

Numbers don't bother me. However, I will point out that we aren't really trending down in an overall OS category actually means we've gone up. Not trying to fanboy on Valve for this summary statement, but "Our numbers increase by roughly 50% each year and many are born out of holiday sales" (or something like that). I bought my first Linux games on Steam this last December and became an active user after sitting on that account for 2 years (no games).
The fact that a semi-popular YouTube channel, Tek Syndicate, is brewing interest in Linux is what matters to me. People are jumping in, tinkering, and sharing (without "RTFM" attitude) what they have learned/created. This is where we all genuinely started, and it's great news that word of mouth is spreading to a more viral / modern platform.
A site like GoL, matters to me. I can't recall a time where there even was an active large Linux community dedicated for gaming. Strange as it sounds, it is still a big step for us due to the limited ecosystem that's driving it forward. A missing optional piece to the Linux puzzle, if you will.
Steam / Humble Indie Bundle / GOG / Desura / Itch.io / etc matter to me. These platforms aren't going to stop giving Linux gaming a platform. If anything, they will keep the ball rolling. Valve's dedication to push driver support and Vulkan adoption honestly made me shed a tear for a bright future no matter what happens.
SteamOS / Machines is just icing on the cake, honestly, and it will provide a beneficial platform for those uninterested in the Linux side of things. Could it be the final console type? Possibly, since the current platforms are failing to keep people (gamers and developers) interest. However, I would like to point out, that it is also possible that consoles just die off altogether. What's important to note here though, is that hardware vendors (whether you like a particular one or not) finally are grouping up to give the Linux (SteamOS) option a viability.
People legitimately enjoying their new found Linux flavour/DE has always been important to me (even if SteamOS is simply a flavour of a console OS). I'm not an evangelist type, but that is what has kept the Linux ecosystem alive. People make these things happen.
Also, maybe it's just me, but people aren't trash talking Linux as much as they did a long time ago. Of course it still happens, but I've noticed a positive trend of "I hope Linux does well, even though it's not for me [atm]".
Sorry for the rant, but I just don't agree with "Steam should downplay the numbers". I didn't simply want to attack that statement, but explain why this is unnecessary to be suddenly non-transparent (people actually care about this a lot more nowadays) . Just shedding some positive forethought, and no, I wasn't trying to bolster that with an "evangelist for Linux" speech. ;)

Strife, The Second Generation MOBA From S2 Games Is Now On Steam

Strife is a pretty good MOBA, at least it was for me when I played it a year ago (only played Linux version, seemed really optimized on my laptop if you turn down the settings). I'm really bad at DOTA 2 (too much going on) and was a League of Legends fanboy once upon a time. Like LoL, it's pretty easy to pick up and play, and like DOTA 2, you get all characters off the bat.
There was a community driven competitive scene when I was playing, can't remember if it still is going on.
Toxicity is always going to be a problem in any MOBA, no matter how far you try to restrain / encourage people though. It would be nice if this became the shining exception, but I can't say toxicity would keep me from playing anyway (thick skin is mandatory for a MOBA).
However, I stopped playing it about a year ago, after I was tired of all MOBAs and became burnt out, but it felt like a great alternative. Also, can't say League will ever make its debut to Linux, since Riot appear to be unclear of the process and are jumping on the Windows 10 store front. I would also note that their Mac port is pretty terrible and quite unsupported from what I hear, so even if they did port it, it would be probably like that.

Freedom Planet Quirky Action Platformer Now On Linux

OMG YES! I been waiting for this one. Almost gave up too (was using a non-linux compatible engine, but there was talk of porting it to c++). I think that speaks volumes for this developer. Most devs just say "it's too much work". But yeah, as you can see, pretty excited as I just bought it. Rocking a solid 60 FPS on this archaic laptop on their test build. Opening up the files in my local folder, game is using SDL2 and OpenAL. Goodbye DirectX! :D
If you loved Sonic / Mega Man, get this game. Everything from the game-play / art to the audio (and voices) are top notch for a indie dev. If Shovel Knight is to the highlights of the 8-bit era, Freedom Planet is the 16-bit / Sega Saturn inspired counterpart to that.
Freedom Planet goes back to the roots of what made Sonic good and brings some fresh things with it like a true successor. Please note, this is not a clone of Sonic, but it definitely captures the essence of it.
IMO, the story is pretty funny.
