Thanks for sharing these! I never really liked Wild West stories/movies (my parents watched too many when I was a kid...), but there's something about Hard West I'm really looking forward to. :)

GOL Cast: Avoiding Zombies, Bugs And DMCA Claims In Dying Light

Quoting: SamsaiMaybe I might be a bit hostile, yes, but this is how I'm going to fight against games that are broken at launch like this. AAAs don't have to be broken at launch and it's not acceptable if they are, so I won't pretend it is. And as you can see in my article, it's not just the game that seems to be broken but also the attitude of the devs/publisher.
I did not find it hostile in your tone, just legitimate concern and minor annoyance. Something that I find very helpful in making a purchase for a game.

- Bugs for a AAA? Now I know to wait.
- DRM / Shady business practices after a already problematic launch across all platforms? Now I know never to support this developer. I have morals, and my money can be used in better places such as a starving indie developer.

So, thank you for the port reports. Unless this developer makes a U-turn away from corporate suicide, I will be putting them under my personal black list of AAA companies to not ever do business with, right under Ubisoft and EA.

Aspyr's Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remaster Is Real And It's Out, We Have Keys For You [Key hunt is over]
29 Jan 2015 at 10:50 am UTC

When I was just about to graduate from high school, I remember watching a few Anime here and there. Generally I did not expect much from Japanese cartoons, they are quite shallow when it comes to execution of story, often limiting it to stereotypical tropes and cloned adventure fantasies. Then I stumbled on Death Note, a psychological thriller that didn't hold itself back (well, I appreciated season 1 anyway). It wasn't the best thriller ever made, oh god no, but it was what brought me to not just thrillers, but to appreciate diversity and creativity in all stories.

The best scariest moment in gaming was when I found a playable demo of Doom when I was 8 or 10 one night with the lights turned off and alone with some headphones. Pansy I was, I know, but it marked itself into my memory to later revisit and beat when I was older. I do not believe I explored enough of the horror genre of today's games, but I am working my way to it when sales come around. I honestly never heard of Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy until maybe a few days ago.

Two Worlds II Is Not Coming To Linux, Well Maybe, We Aren't Sure Anymore

Meanwhile, a cool indie dev releases their port for Gravity Ghost [External Link] 30 days ahead of schedule.

While it's sad to hear this about Two Worlds, I'm kind of steering away from the mentality "oh, wish that was ported" when I can grab some of these clever lesser-known titles almost immediately at their launch date.

Toki Tori: The Cheapest Game on Steam

The Tribes pack isn't DLC for Toki Tori, they're different games bundled together. EDGE is really fun in that bundle. I didn't expect to love a puzzle platformer so much.

GOL GOTY Awards Are Over, Here's The Top 10 From Each Section

Glad to see Transistor up there. :)

Now as far as voting is concerned, I think it needs to be more relevant to the year. While I love Battle for Wesnoth and is my most actively played Open Source game, I don't regularly check out the updates, but this is afaik, not a game release of 2014, nor are many of the ones. Open source categories should be relevant to "what has improved most" or developed through activity. We all know many open source projects stagnate or die sometimes due to inactivity, so it would be more beneficial to readers to see what has been regularly updating or has been enjoyed through said updates of that year.

IMO of categories:

- Open source: Best development improvements of 2015
- Open source: Best new / anticipated project(s) of 2015 (this could even be a "What has been revived" through development activity)

- Commercial: Best / Most anticipated port(s) of 2015
- Commercial: Best DRM-free of 2015

- Editor's Choice award of 2015

C4 Engine Drops Linux Support, Developer Says Linux Is Inferior

Quoting: adolsonI just read this post [External Link] by Juan Linietsky on the Godot Engine forums, although not directly related to C4, it shows the stark contrast between the two engine leaders. This is the kind of guy I want to support. Unfortunately, he doesn't charge for Godot but instead gives it away under the liberal MIT license, and donations are not accepted anywhere that I could find... I guess he does it all for the fun of it.
I wouldn't oppose a donation button, but yes I agree and fully support Juan Linietsky's statement in that.

Contributions to awesome tools like this can vary and go a long way by simply using the tool and helping others within its open community. Money isn't the only way of supporting something like Godot. :)

Torchlight II Has Even More Positive Signs For Linux
12 Jan 2015 at 10:51 pm UTC

Never touched the Torchlight series, but I hear good things and looks visually appealing. Would definitely buy Torchlight 2 even just to check it out (after official Linux release).

One thing I do not understand though, is why Torchlight 1 not on Steam for Linux? I thought about buying that just to check out the series, but I was misled to believe it wasn't available for my OS?

C4 Engine Drops Linux Support, Developer Says Linux Is Inferior

Why are we giving this developer any attention? Not every piece of software needs to be cross-platform. Never heard of the engine, never heard of these games. Such a tragedy...

Like seriously, a child could install an OS (any). If a "educated" person like this can't even perform basic entry level tech support, god knows how abysmally designed his engine is. There are a plenty out there (free and commercial), and ones with big names, might I add, like Unity actually changing their mind to support Linux because they know statements like that are farce.

Two Worlds II Confirmed For A Linux Release This Month

Quoting: scaineIf it has the Reality Pump DRM on Steam, I won't buy it. In fact, I won't buy any second-factor DRM-enabled game, as I draw the line at Steam itself.
This is exactly how I feel about the DRM bull$hit. Steam (Origin miserably fails at mimicing the model, but hey EA sucks anyway) is the line. If you cross this line, then I simply won't buy the game. I didn't buy to rent a game, I bought it to OWN the game.
