A newly public patent (filed in 2018) from Valve shows a Steam Controller with attachments

Quoting: Mountain Man
Quoting: NanobangMy first impression is GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! SANTA GOD LOVES ME!!!!!

The second is to remember that a week or so ago, I had a Steam survey come up and --- just before it got my info --- it asked whether I used the range extender for the Steam controller USB dongle (I said "yes"). I thought it might be part of info gathering about maybe a new SC. Now it seems all but certain, with this news.
I've always gotten that question during the extremely rare appearances the survey has made on my system in the past.

*Stops celebratory running down street naked*
Hmm. Not me, and I've gotten surveys at least once a year, sooooo ... that means SANTA GOD LOVES ME MORE! *Takes back off running down the street, naked. The sound of approaching sirens grows louder.*

Hey, do you think there's a connection between this and the fact that it's pretty much Easter time?

*takes off clothes and runs down the street shouting 'Hallelujah! Steam Controller Jesus is coming!*

Something Ate My Alien has a curious mixture of action, digging and puzzle platforming - demo up
10 Apr 2020 at 1:01 pm UTC

I'm not much for 2-D platformer/side-view games, but Something Ate My Alien brings a lot of interesting ideas to the well-trod, usually stale video game form. Alas, the "limited oxygen" mechanic is apt to keep me from buying it at anything but the lowest of sale prices.

Timers are anathema to my enjoyment of video games; I'm a casual player and only resent the added pressure all but the most relaxed of count-downs.

Still there's something so unique about what I see when I watch the video that I'm going to have to wishlist S.A.M.A.. It's just to intriguing to ignore.

Party-based RPG with base management 'Zoria: Age of Shattering' now has a Linux demo available

I just went to add it to my wishlist and, lo and behold! it was already there! (But the Prologue wasn't, so I added that instead.) :D

Valve makes auto-update adjustments to help with managing Steam's bandwidth use
31 Mar 2020 at 11:41 am UTC

Everything I do online conserves bandwidth, but not by choice. Stuck with AT&T DSL I've got so little bandwidth that nothing auto-updates on my system without my giving it the go-ahead. :/

In the case of Steam, I only run it when I'm going to play a game, so --- unless I'm going to play a multi-player online game --- I have things update in the background while I'm playing something. If it's really big (like Borderlands-OMG-it's-dead-whale-bloated-fat 3) I might leave Steam on when I go to bed and shut it down when I get up in the morning.

Try out 'Critters for Sale', an exhilarating short horror visual novel with two episodes out now

The graphics are ... disturbing, almost a David-Lynch-Eraserhead disturbing. Any game whose graphics alone can creep me out has got my attention. I'll put it on my Steam wishlist and, once all 5 episodes are released, binge them. Yum.

Valve have a new Beta installer for the Linux Steam Client for the brave tester
28 Mar 2020 at 1:24 pm UTC

Am I right in assuming that this would require uninstalling any current version of Steam prior to trying out this new installer? I'm not going to, mind you, not yet, but I might be tempted to try it in a later release.

Sunburst, I'm delighted to see you bringing little gems like this to light from itch.io! There's so much real experimentation and devotion to creativity at itch.io, so many worldviews and alternate realities packed into that website that would go unsung without folks like you pointing them out. Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to your future discoveries.

New Steam Client Beta up with Linux updates, Valve prepping Proton 5.0-5
20 Mar 2020 at 1:19 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: CorbenHopefully Proton 5.0-5 will also include patches to get Doom Eternal up and running, but maybe it also needs a gpu driver update. At least with 5.0-4 it seems not to work so far.
Well, maybe I should try Doom Eternal on Stadia. Really a pity Bethesda is not interested in supporting Desktop Linux, though ID Software once released well working Linux binaries for their games (Doom 3, Quake 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars...).
Otherwise, HL:A will be the next hype game to be played ;)
I just read an interesting article about Denuvo in Doom Eternal. [External Link] the tl,dr is that the Doom Eternal came with it's an additional .exe folder that is Denuvo-free. Yup, someone at Bethesda included a crack for their own game. :D It might be something to check out.
