More shots of Steam's new Library design thanks to a leak (updated)

Quoting: Beamboom
Quoting: liamdaweIt's part of Steam feature for shaders to reduce stuttering in games for us.
I know about the feature itself - but why does it download a handful of megs with shaders EACH TIME I log on? I mean, do they add new shaders all the time? Or change/update them?

If I had only downloaded once per game, or a new one every full moon I'd not even mention it. But each time I start the client? And mostly for the same games?
I feel you. At 0.6 Mb/s (thank you and FUCK you AT&T) I have crap broadband one step up from dial up, and these constant shader caches are too numerous (30+) and take up too much time for me to bother with every time Steam needs to restart. I just turned 'em off and haven't missed them one iota.

Whatever annoyance I might have from a little stuttering is waaayyyy less than the huge annoyance of all that downloading. My advice, Beamboom, is try turning them off.

Confessing my continued love of the Steam Controller, a few years after release

After literally thousands of hours of use, the hook on the battery door on one of my Steam Controllers broke. I ordered a new one from Steam and it arrived in less than a week. $10. Done and fixed.

I pre-ordered my first Steam Controller, so I got it in the Fall of 2014, and I have used absolutely nothing else ever since.

In 2016 I switched over to using Kozec's SC-Controller [External Link] user-space driver and, like the Steam Controller itself, I have used nothing else ever since. Compared to the Steam provided driver, SC-Controller is rock solid stable. It's more dependable, powerful, and adaptable. Really. Proof, to me, that once again, open-source triumphs over proprietary. ;)

In the event that there ever is a Steam Controller 2.0, I wouldn't really want much to change, actually; just some tweaks:

  • Like Liam said, slightly more compact (but keep those haptic pads like they are)

  • I've often wanted a second pair of buttons near the current bumper/shoulder buttons, either above or on the side of the controller.

  • And (though it will never happen) I'd love a way to swap out the joystick with a proper Dpad or more buttons. I know, I know. Blasphemy. But I use the Lpad instead of the joystick for ev-er-y-thing, and the stick just ends up being used like a kinda clumsy, vestigial Dpad. Like I said, it'll never happen, but a girl's gotta have her dreams, right?

New Borderlands 2 DLC is on the way called Commander Lilith & The Fight For Sanctuary

Tired of waiting on Aspyr, I installed the Win version to play on Proton in anticipation---based entirely on rumours---of this DLC. I usually don't mind the way Linux releases come out (much) later than Windows, but not when we're talking about the Borderlands franchise.

Dying Light is still seeing updates years after release and my love of it continues

Quoting: liam... from what I know the two people who did the Dying Light Linux port no longer work at Techland.
Weren't these two people also interns? Anyway, Techland earned a lot of love and loyalty from me for Dying Light and the Dead Island games all being available on Linux. Pity we'll not see this newest one available on Linux, too.

Feeling ignored because I game on Linux, I'm pretty used to that. Feeling abandoned by a company like Techland, who supported Linux in the past, makes me feel sad and a little betrayed. :(

Steam is doing a World Environment Day Sale and there's some nice Linux games

A lot of these prices are as low, or the lowest, they've ever been. I finally added Aer, Everything, and Never Alone to my library---I'll skip all the jokes about how "Everything's on sale, so I bought everything," etc., etc., ad absurdum.

Google to reveal Stadia pricing, games, launch info and more on Thursday

Quoting: F.UltraYeah, boo on Google for providing a service that people might enjoy and want to pay
Excellent point! That's exactly what I wasn't talking about. It's probably frustrating to have so much to say but to never be able to actually really join any conversations, isn't it?

Quoting: F.Ultra... if happens to be a success it's only because people are not as smart or hip as you.
Obviously. Yes. But don't let it get you down, if you really apply yourself you might get there one day.

Google to reveal Stadia pricing, games, launch info and more on Thursday

Google is a plague. This latest outbreak, Stadia, is just the latest ploy to harvest money and data from its dewy-eyed herd of human ruminants.

In spite of the big "Linux" and "Vulkan" logos in the picture, I've no doubt Google is just going to be using these as resources to be exploited and not as members of the Communities that created them. I remember everyone being all atwitter about Android being based on Linux, too.

Unless Stadia is only going to stream Linux games and only ones that use Vulkan, I just don't see how this is going to end up being anything that will benefit the Linux Gaming Community. Admittedly, time will tell.

Still, until we know more, I'm glad Liam is keeping us abreast of the latest news on Google's latest in utero scam.

I've started playing Fallout: New Vegas using Steam Play. I've had some hangs on loading, which is a drag, but otherwise works well. Looks better than it did on my X360, which is the last time I played it, I think.

I'm also down to play some Borderlands GOTY with my Bro-in-law. I'd like to play some of the Enhanced version, but my B' in law says (get this) it's too unstable for him on Windows 10. XD

The dev of "Marble It Up!" had intriguing words to say about the native vs Steam Play argument for a Linux version

Click. (mebs tweak). Play.

I love Steam Play.

I don't really see its close integration with Steam as a downside. Sure, this or that update could break something, but that's no different than any other situation as far as I can tell. It's all gonna require something gets fixed, maybe something I can do something about, maybe not.

In fact, Steam Play can even fix an update-induced problem. Aspyr, our porter of B'lands 2, hasn't patched our official Linux version since the last Gearbox graphicx update. Tired of waiting, I just forced Borderlands 2 to run with Steam Play so I could return to playing with a friend I've been playing with for years. Huh---in a word---zah!

Old games, new games ... it doesn't really matter to me. Nowadays I don't look for "Linux" games, I just look for games---games I want to play.

The latest '7 Days to Die' experimental build allows more graphics tweaking, running nicely

Quoting: AllocYeah, options are really a good thing. You can never satisfy everyone with defaults, no matter what you make them .... It helps shape the game in a lot more ways to make more people happy :)
The level of control y'all have given to the player is brilliant, It's made 7d2d unique in the Zombie genre, letting me survive and explore in the zombie apocalypse of my dreams! Kudos!
