Is it an English language faux pas when they say "pilots" in their video, or is that the generally used term for race car drivers everywhere but in the U.S.?

Whatever, it's free and looks fun. They can call the drivers lolipop wranglers for all it matters to me. Good find Liam!

Haters gonna hate, and kvetchers gonna kvetch, but I'll do a dance every time another truly great game makes it to Linux.

I remember this. (Glad they removed the "Festival of Magic" tagline, it made it sound like a children't cartoon about sharing.) I was interested in it despite its jrpg-ish style combat ('Ok, everyone. Let's all queue up for the battle! Red rover, red rover send a fireball on over.' *Fwoosh!*).

Given their history, I'll wait till the devs actually bring out a full release before dropping any dinero on this one.

That seems fair. I don't support Kongregate. ;)

Grabbed the Amnesia games, and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I really want to like them; it would mean I could re-examine the horror genre of video games as a whole, which in turn would mean more games available for me to play.

As it stands, however, my play-style puts me at odds with most horror video games. It's not that they couldn't scare me---I'm sure they could---but a several decades watching horror movies has taught me:

  • Don't ghost hunt.

  • Don't go into abandoned buildings, especially abandoned hospitals and asylums.

  • Don't take shortcuts through woods, swamps, or sewers.

  • Don't investigate strange sounds.

  • Don't kiss, fuck, or do anything in-between when monsters and murderers are about.

  • Don't assume a monster/murderer is dead until you curb-stomp its head and/or dismember it.

  • Don't go back for anybody. Ever.

  • Never split up.

  • And never ever go anywhere without a weapon, no matter how makeshift, arm yourself with something.

  • Stupid people die.

and playing horror video games always seem to require I ignore some or all of these.

Still, free's free, and the Amnesia games are said to be classics of the genre. I'll try and role-play a horror movie character, I'll try and play a stupid people for the sake of a good scare. ;)

The SMACH Z gaming handheld has switched to AMD Ryzen & Vega, pre-orders start soon

If I watched the video I'd probably know how it's pronounced, but I'm a reader more than a watcher, and from a reader's perspective, the name hits my ear like a dead flounder: cold and flat.

How is that pronounced? Is it "Smach" like "smock?" or is it pronounced "Smach" like "match," only with an "S" in front? or is it pronounced like "smack?" My wife point out that it could also be pronounced "Smash," so there's that, too.

That's a lot of uncertainty out of the gate, certainly more than I'm willing to pony up $700 to $900 for.
