Quoting: DrNickHonestly, it's not worth getting involved with most of the chinese handhelds. Ayaneo especially have terrible customer service. So, Asus and Lenovo are both Chinese as well. Is their customer service also bad, or is it only worth mentioning it's Chinese if it's bad?
MONSTER HUNTER RISE gets patched to fix it on Steam Deck

Honestly, I don't know that companies would even verify patches on every console if the consoles didn't require them to. You'd be surprised how often IT companies are willing to cut corners. As much as I hate to praise Microsoft, I think Bethesda is actually doing their Starfield patches the right way, releasing them as opt-in Beta first.
MONSTER HUNTER RISE adds new DRM that breaks it on Steam Deck (UPDATED)

It amazes me that executives keep falling for this. The marketing for these DRM companies must be brilliant. They prey on fear, and the craziest part is, it doesn't even benefit the game companies.
Inevitably, the "pirates" crack the DRM, so the only people DRM ends up hurting are the paying customers.

Quoting: LoudTechieBeing derivative isn't copyright infringement. They would have to have the same characters, use the same character names or use the actual code from a Pokemon game. Copyright law isn't like trademark law where a company can claim another's logo is "too close" to their own. In copyright it literally has to be a copy, and you also can't copyright ideas. That's why Transformers and GoBots have existed in the same world for decades and there are tons of Pokemon lookalikes.Quoting: dlove67I would guess that they would argue that the "pals" are derivative Pokémons.Quoting: soulsourceI'm a bit torn on this one. On the one hand it looks really interesting. On the other hand it's €20 that will be spent on nothing once it gets pulled from Steam because of (rightful) copyright claims by The Pokémon Company...What copyright claim would Nintendo have?
Ubisoft think gamers need to get comfortable with not owning games

People comfortable with not owning their music and movies are people who don't find them valuable (and possibly for good reasons). When people do find value in them, they still want to own them. I have a daughter who buys physical copies of her K-Pop albums, even sometimes in vinyl, because it's more than just a listening experience for her. People who are really into gaming, especially on PC, expect more than just the basic game. That's why the modding community is so huge. You take that away, and you lose a lot of people.

Quoting: LoudTechieI'm actually quite impressed.I think we all know Liam's the GOAT.
With both Liam and Ayeneo.
Liam got himself taken seriously as an industry voice.
Ayeneo didn't only undercut Valve, but did so while keeping it future proof.
I does cost some qualities and new technologies, but only on this forum we've already seen some protest to them.

MSI teasing a handheld gaming PC like the Steam Deck

The problem is, Microsoft is rather inept at innovation, especially in the handheld space. Remember Windows Phone, Zune, and Pocket PCs? Even if they do produce a new handheld interface, there's no reason to believe it won't be as bad as Metro was on Windows 8. I wouldn't be surprised if they did an Xbox handheld before they do that.

Quoting: JarmerThe defining question: will it have a suspend mode similar to the deck or not? None of these handhelds are worth a penny if not. I don't know the Ally has added it post release but it didn't ship with this feature, right?Valve is a software company, and they've proven they're pretty good at creating features like this (and supporting free and open source software). All these competitors (Lenovo, Asus, MSI, etc.) are hardware companies, and they've always relied on Microsoft to handle the software.

Quoting: PhiladelphusI was interested to see that Marvel's Midnight Suns showed up in the Silver section for "most played games this past year on Deck" in the article last week. Apparently it was something of a commercial flop for Firaxis and quickly disappeared from the general gaming conversation, but just this morning I saw an article about how it seems to be having a renaissance on the Deck.It was honestly my game of the year in 2022. I'm still playing it. There were some problems with the stupid 2K launcher caused it to not launch on Linux. I think those are sorted, but you can also use a workaround to skip the launcher, if necessary. If Firaxis were still independent of 2K, I think it would've sold better. People were also experiencing (or claiming to experience) Marvel fatigue, although I think that was mainly about the movies. This game doesn't follow the movies at all, and it has a compelling story.
(I downloaded it some months ago when it had a free-to-play weekend since I enjoyed XCOM 1 & 2, but couldn't get it to start, so I haven't bothered since.)
