The Last of Us now Unsupported on Steam Deck, bad look for Valve and Naughty Dog

Let's not forget that it's a bad look for Sony too. They've been pushing their PC division so hard these past couple of years, but their delivery has been inconsistent depending on the developer and/or porting companies.

I think they need to institute QA standards that their subsidiaries and partners must pass before they release anything under their brand.

Will this finally allow steam remote play to work properly in Wayland?

No true next-gen Steam Deck for 'a few years' Valve say

It's interesting that Sony, a company that literally sells one of the major consoles, has made sure its PC ports are deck verified. I think they've set the standard that other companies should follow. It really doesn't require that much, just adequate graphics settings to turn down and lower-end hardware, something they should be doing for any PC game anyway.

To be clear, this is not a problem with Linux. Even Windows users are having problems with this launcher, so Valve is going above and beyond for this.

Bluetooth support for the Stadia Controller is now live

I updated my controller in Chrome on Kubuntu without any problems. It's not my normal browser, but I figured I'd need it. Google originally sent my Stadia controller to me for free, so it's a pretty good deal that I at least end up with a free controller in the end.

Just to clarify something, it seems most people don't really know what a boycott is. If you need help understanding, study the Civil Rights Movement in America. A real boycott is well-organized, well-planned and is designed to bring an organization or service to a complete halt. Simply deciding you don't want to support something is not a boycott. It's an individual choice that will have no real-world consequences outside of making you feel better about yourself. And that's not meant to be an insult or to tell you not to do it. It's just reality.

The problem with boycotting a person, especially one who already has more wealth than she can ever spend, is that even if everyone collectively decided not to buy anything from her, it wouldn't hurt her at all. That's why "cancel culture" isn't a real thing, and everyone who has supposedly been "cancelled" is still rich and powerful. The people who speak out against ignorance and bigotry have just as much right to speech as the bigots, and speaking out against them is a far better tool than simply quietly not buying something they might earn some royalties from.

Quoting: CyborgZeta
Quoting: TiZ
Quoting: CyborgZetaThat's nice and all, but Vulkan on the Dolphin Flatpak has been broken for the past several months. Trying to use Vulkan just brings up a "failed to initialize video backend" and "failed to create Vulkan instance" dialog.
I don't see an issue for this on the Flathub package's issue tracker. [External Link] Any particular reason you haven't filed a report if it has been broken for the past several months?
I don't have a GitHub account, and I know jack about filing bug reports. People typically pull up the output in a terminal or something, yes? I don't know how to do that. All I can tell you is "Uh, it don't work".

There are discussions on Reddit that tell me other people have issues with failing to initialize Vulkan on Dolphin. Though I don't know what hardware or OS they're using. In those cases, it may be a driver issue, but the Flatpak build should be using the latest drivers. No clue.

Vulkan in Dolphin doesn't work on my desktop or my Steam Deck, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
I just tried it with Vulkan, and it appears to be working on my system. There must be a way to work around whatever issue you're having, although I don't know what that is since I didn't do anything special.

AMD Ray Tracing on Linux gets closer with Mesa enabling specific games
4 Jan 2023 at 3:37 pm UTC

It's nice to see some more movement on this, as it's been a long time coming for those sticking with the open source Mesa drivers.
What does this mean? Do the proprietary drivers already have ray-tracing support?

The Steam Deck really doesn't need exclusives

Being able to play a game on your desktop and then pick up where you left off on the Steam Deck is one of its strengths. It makes no sense to take that away. I saw that article and wanted to blast him in the comments, but that site doesn't have a comment section.
