I remember way back when S2 released "Savage: The Battle for Newerth". Their trailer was so very attractive, but I probably only played the game once. It was exciting that something so fancy-looking had Linux support but ultimately just not the kind of game I liked. Apparently, many people did like it though. It's a shame the new company isn't as Linux friendly.

You really just made that up, didn't you? :D It has "generally favorable" reviews and has even won awards. I obviously don't have sales numbers but the fact they're going ahead with a port would suggest it has solid sales numbers as well.

Reading the reviews for the game I'm not in any kind of hurry to buy this, I wanted an improved version of X3, not an improved version of X: Rebirth.

It's no Rebirth (apart from buggy release, which works in our favour having to wait), I recommend checking actual footage from the like of ObsidianAnt rather than Steam reviews.

From what I read in the reviews, it sounds like the X3 fans are pleased with the gameplay, while they managed to keep some of the good features from X: Rebirth. Most of the negative reviews are related to performance. It seems like it's a buggy mess right now.

I like the theme of this game.

As with any marketing, they could have avoided the scandal by just being up front about it. A simple, "Do you agree to help us by sending anonymous XYZ data?" would have worked. Or they could have just created a post-purchase survey. It's the secrecy and lack of choice that usually upsets people.

People often try to assign human emotions and intentions to Microsoft, but it's a corporation. It exists to make money for shareholders, and it will buy and sell its CEO's own mother if it means making an extra few dollars. Having said that, if they find Linux versions of games to be profitable, they might release some, but if Linux ever became serious competition, that would stop.

Agreed. Any game with a story needs to be played from beginning to end. I wouldn't want to read a book with missing chapters or a serial TV show with missing episodes. I've also read that there are some balance issues with the combat that only time and care can fix. I'd happily wait and pay full price for a good finished product.

It's nice that they added a singleplayer campaign, but it's hard to imagine they can pull off a Descent rebirth better than Overload.
