SpaceBourne might see a Linux version, according to demand after release

Quoting: melkemindIt would be nice if these companies that want to see "demand" would actually do market research rather than just waiting to see how many people post on an isolated forum thread that many users may never even see.
It incurs additional cost. So the best way to start considering even if the market research for a port would be appropriate is a scenario with no cost that could supposedly could give a good enough approximation of the results.
I'm not saying their research has to be anything super sophisticated. I've worked in government and had no real money but could throw together a decent survey and actually put a little time into finding where actual users are. Also, they could at least set actual goals. Often times it seems like they just whimsically say they want to wait for "demand" without actually specifying the threshold for when enough demand has been met. Setting an actual goal will motivate people to spread the word to make sure the goal is met, similar to crowdfunding.

Knights of Light, a historical action RPG set in the Middle East will support Linux, currently on Kickstarter

Quoting: VoxelForgeThat's not to generalize gamers or say that a large portion of the community is Islamophobic, but some Islamophobia and hatred towards Muslims in the action/FPS gaming community is definitely alive. It will be interesting to see if the developers will approach certain topics with the western palette in mind, or if they will provide an unapologetically accurate depiction of early medieval Iraq. For the sake of historical context and immersion, I'm hoping for the latter.

The main character is from a tribe known for its might and prowess in battles. The tribe was considered as a special force in the army and was lead by him and his brother.

The main battle will not be the core event instead it will be a part of the campaign timeline.
My vote is for Khalid ibn al-Walid [External Link] with Al-Qaqa ibn Amr al-Tamimi [External Link] as a very close runner-up.

All considered I am hyped for this game.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything indicating which side the protagonist would be on. It's possible he might be on the Persian side fighting against the Muslims, which was the losing side, of course.

Atari VCS RAM upgraded to 8GB and Atari confirm you can put a normal Linux distribution on it

Quoting: GuestI'm honestly not sure if I should respond to this, because I'm not interested in being antagonistic. I just wish the Linux community would be more cautious about these things.

Anyway, I mention them because the market conditions of all are fairly similar when considering their commercial viability. They might find success if they do something like System 76, but why bother with Atari when System 76 has a proven track record and has been focused on Linux from conception?
Hey, I'm not saying you should go out and pre-order one of these Atari boxes. I'd suggest anyone wait and see how they turn out. I was just pointing out that Steam Machines are in a different category than Ouya. SteamOS brought a lot of games over to Linux, and because of that, many more developers see the value of Linux as a gaming platform. You can't deny the role Steam Machines played in that. Ouya technically runs Linux too (the Android variant), but AFAIK, it did little to help Android or Linux.

Quoting: Ray54I cant see how negative comments helps us as a Linux gaming community.
Negative comments help deter people from buying bad products. Sorry, but this has Ouya/Steam Machine written all over it.

Also they're not really a small company, they're a failing company. Maybe they can turn a new leaf, but up until now they've earned the stigma that they currently have.
I don't see how Ouya and Steam Machines should even be mentioned in the same sentence, other than their lack of big commercial success. While Ouya is a failed console that is no longer supported, anyone who bought a Steam Machine still has a working PC that can continue to run Linux games.

Egosoft have confirmed that X4: Foundations will be on Linux

I just hope they are not biting off more than they can chew. Part of the big problem with X-Rebirth was that they were trying to do more than a company their size really had the resources to pull off so it was riddled with bugs and incomplete features.

Let's hope the name of the game isn't foretelling how long it'll take to release.

This sounds cool. I hope there's a "free explore" mode where you don't have to worry about resource management. That sounds too much like a job. :D
