Steam has been suggesting this game to me for years. Maybe I'll check it out, depending on reviews.

So, just to be clear, you're saying Half Life 3 confirmed? :)

Why GNU/Linux ports can be less performant, a more in-depth answer

Quoting: ziabiceThe article is great, but leaves me with a big question: why WINE + Gallium Nine can sometimes archive same (or better) performance as Windows? It's simply not OpenGL, so there's no overhead?
This also can apply to Wine + CSMT for some OpenGL games.
How are we even defining "performance"? Are we talking maximum frames per second? minimum? average? compared to Windows? If a Windows version churns out 120 FPS and the Linux version gets 80, I'm fine with that. The problem is when the Linux version gets 100 but occasionally dips down to 40 (or even 30). Is that also part of OpenGL's limitations? Will Vulkan help at all with that?

Mad Max released for Linux, port report and review available

The game runs perfectly for most parts, but as the author mentioned, there are sections where the FPS really tanks. At first I thought it might be a specific setting, but changing the settings has no effect. Then, I thought it might be just graphically intense moments or areas, but I could be surrounded by five cars with explosions and the FPS might stay above 60. On the other hand, there is one place where I was literally staring at a dirty wall, and the FPS dropped to 35. No settings changes would fix it. What do you think would cause that? I'd happily sacrifice a graphical feature to fix it, but I suspect we don't have the option in settings. Is OpenGL just not up to par?

Aspyr Media are reminding Linux gamers not to give up hope on Civilization VI

Quoting: BTREEdit: Just saw the reddit statement. I don't know what they could possibly be researching at this stage. The OSX port will be using OpenGL so it's not an additional API issue. Besides which, they've had (presumably) several months to look at the game and code. The lack of clarity and wording makes me suspect it's simply a investment/returns for man hours issue. However well rationalized by them, I still feel like I'm being treated like a second class citizen.
Hold on a second now. The wording of their statement almost suggests they actually made a Linux port and it sucked, so 2K pulled the plug on it. Why else would they need to research and prove that their port can perform up to standards? Either that or the Mac port was not up to standards so 2K axed the Linux port.

Quoting: KeyrockThis seems like one of the 8 billion survival games out there. Is that correct, or am I getting the wrong impression?
Yes, but this is one that actually made it out of early access. :D

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided arrives on SteamOS & Linux on the 3rd of November

There's going to be a performance decrease compared to Windows. That's just the nature of the porting beast. The best we can hope for is playability. A first person shooter generally needs a steady framerate so you don't get shot during a stutter.

Like many of you, I wonder why Vulkan wasn't on the table. I thought one of the selling points of Vulkan was that it would make porting from DX12 much easier. As of now, we still only have 2 Vulkan games on Linux (unless you count the Android titles). Is there some technical problem with it, or is it just not mature enough?

Feral have released the minimum and recommend system requirements for Mad Max on Linux

The original Windows version required an i5 650, 3.2 GHz. My i5 3350P 3.1 GHz plays it wonderfully and never drops below 60 FPS. I don't know why they dropped the numerical designation and only list the clock speed, which is really not that helpful.

Civilization VI for Linux is no longer certain, only a possibility

Aspyr probably asked for more money. 2K is a money-making machine, so they'll probably find someone else to do the Linux port. They won't leave cheese on the table.
