The game runs perfectly for most parts, but as the author mentioned, there are sections where the FPS really tanks. At first I thought it might be a specific setting, but changing the settings has no effect. Then, I thought it might be just graphically intense moments or areas, but I could be surrounded by five cars with explosions and the FPS might stay above 60. On the other hand, there is one place where I was literally staring at a dirty wall, and the FPS dropped to 35. No settings changes would fix it. What do you think would cause that? I'd happily sacrifice a graphical feature to fix it, but I suspect we don't have the option in settings. Is OpenGL just not up to par?

Quoting: BTREEdit: Just saw the reddit statement. I don't know what they could possibly be researching at this stage. The OSX port will be using OpenGL so it's not an additional API issue. Besides which, they've had (presumably) several months to look at the game and code. The lack of clarity and wording makes me suspect it's simply a investment/returns for man hours issue. However well rationalized by them, I still feel like I'm being treated like a second class citizen.Hold on a second now. The wording of their statement almost suggests they actually made a Linux port and it sucked, so 2K pulled the plug on it. Why else would they need to research and prove that their port can perform up to standards? Either that or the Mac port was not up to standards so 2K axed the Linux port.

There's going to be a performance decrease compared to Windows. That's just the nature of the porting beast. The best we can hope for is playability. A first person shooter generally needs a steady framerate so you don't get shot during a stutter.
Like many of you, I wonder why Vulkan wasn't on the table. I thought one of the selling points of Vulkan was that it would make porting from DX12 much easier. As of now, we still only have 2 Vulkan games on Linux (unless you count the Android titles). Is there some technical problem with it, or is it just not mature enough?

The original Windows version required an i5 650, 3.2 GHz. My i5 3350P 3.1 GHz plays it wonderfully and never drops below 60 FPS. I don't know why they dropped the numerical designation and only list the clock speed, which is really not that helpful.

Aspyr probably asked for more money. 2K is a money-making machine, so they'll probably find someone else to do the Linux port. They won't leave cheese on the table.

Quoting: ElectricPrismCool now I can marry the condescending blond girl that loves diamonds and putting people down & make her angry & embarrassed.I solved the Robin issue by marrying her daughter. :)
But will you be able to woo & marry previously unavailable NPCs? Like Robbin.
Just imagine getting farm structures for free, the perks of having a carpenter wife.
Mwaahaha.

Quoting: dmantioneI think you're missing the big picture here. Valve already dominates the market with Steam as a gaming platform. Creating their own OS is meant to secure its longevity, and it seems like it was the smart move considering how Microsoft is positioning the Windows Store with DirectX 12 and Windows 10/Xbone exclusives. SteamOS offers an alternative to those users who have already embraced Steam and are not willing to abandon it in favor of a Microsoft bundled "Xbox One for Windows" approach.Quoting: MaCroX95They did not mean to take over the Market with steam machines in 2 years which many people seem to be thinking.I believe Valve did actually intend to takeover the market in two years. At least their behaviour was like it: They hyped SteamOS a lot, they announced many different Steam Machines. It all sounded like a "Windows 95" that was supposed to conquer the gaming market, as Gabe Newell did it back then.
However, I believe that at some point, Valve realised it is not possible to go this fast: They didn't enough support from third party game developers and hardware manufacturers. The fact that it was much harder to developer a good Steam Controller than they initially thpught may also have contributed to this.
The lack of hype around the Steam Machine launch was remarkable, and I think at that point Valve knew they couldn't conquer the world by storm.
It's kind of comforting that Timothee Besset states what many of us suspected, Valve still believe in Linux gaming, and are playing the long game. If Valve would have given up, Timothee would know it. This means that the lack of activity on SteamOS is not worrying at all.
The theory that Valve is internally developing on an unstable version of SteamOS and just releases small updates to the stable version is IMO also becoming more plausible.

So, are all controllers actually supported on Linux? I made the mistake of buying a game from this developer before only to find that controller support was paltry.
