Someone who bought the game on Steam says that it won't launch [External Link]. The response is somewhat troubling:
Hi!Should we expect to see more of this? Also, what are they doing to cause it to work on SteamOS but not Ubuntu?
Currently the game is only officially supported through the Linux based Steam OS but may run on other distributions through emulators such as Wine. I hope this information helps!

He sounds like he's about 14 (not an insult). The game looks very relaxing, even if it just involved flying around aimlessly.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

The way I see it, there are at least two ways this could play out:
1. After seeing all the big-name titles coming to Linux, AMD improves their drivers and everyone lives happily ever after.
2. Steam Machines become successful, and Nvidia corners the market on them in the same way that AMD did with Xbox One and PS4, effectively making Nvidia the default graphics company for Linux. That might lead to better performance for Nvidia Linux users but would be very bad for AMD users.
A third possibility of course is that nothing happens and nothing changes.

I just read that this is a "PC exclusive". That means it will be on Linux even before the consoles (if it comes to consoles at all).

Quoting: edddeduckferalLOL You tease more than a...OK, I better keep it clean, but you tease a lot.Quoting: FutureSutureThanks for the concern! We've been porting multiple Mac games for years before we entered the land of Penguins so we're used to working on more than a couple of games at once. :)Quoting: adolsonNone. I haven't managed to buy a game ported by Feral yet. I am simply saying that with Feral porting all these games, support may be stretched rather thin.Quoting: FutureSutureWhat issues do you have with their existing ports? I haven't run into problems. In fact, their ports, along with Aspyr's, are some of the best we've got.Quoting: liamdaweI just hope Feral don't bite off too much. They have a lot of ports in progress.I wonder the same. Hopefully Feral can offer great support despite all the ports it is doing, otherwise support will be its poorest port yet.
Are we getting busier on the Linux side of things? Yeah we are but that's a good thing right?
Anyway I better go we have a LOT on and that's just the stuff you all know about ;)

Maybe GamingOnLinux could compile a list of trusted porters with good track records and make sure game companies are aware of reliable options. I doubt any developer wants the negative attention that comes with a port that is no longer supported.

I agree that it's very confusing. It looks like it's just part of the "SteamPlay" logo rather than something separate. Having said that, however, a good marketing campaign could convince people of just about anything. It will be up to Valve to do that and also convince people that they want/need Steam Machines.
