GOG isn't even close. Recently thanks to 3rd party apps, like heroic store app and lutris, gog gets something viable. But i don't think they deserve much credit for that...
Maybe so, but the credit they do deserve is for not standing in the way of such launchers.

For all the support that valve gives to linux, one still must download and install valve's shop just to be able to play the games you purchase on steam.

AMD Ryzen Z1 Series announced for handhelds, ASUS ROG Ally first to get it

With more power comes more battery drain too
Not necessarily; there's two generations of improvements for the cpu, and one for gpu in there compared to the deck, and from the desktop zen4 parts we know that the new gen is easily tweaked to have lower power consumption than zen3 whilst still handily beating the older gen in performance.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIt's nice that they're putting out powerful Linux laptops.
But, could somebody maybe do a wimpy Linux laptop? That's more what I'm in the market for.

Linux and Steam Deck game manager Lutris has a fresh Beta out
21 Apr 2023 at 12:11 am UTC

Never managed to get any version of lutris working, even on a clean mint install. Got rather sick of seeing "error 256" when attempting to install anything with it.

For now, I am managing fine with heroic ^_^

iGPU on a modern AMD CPU, sounds familiar...
I don't think you can run all games @ 1080p 60 FPS though, even at low (fine for me) settings.
When, in the history of pc gameing has that ever been the case with the entry-level option, though?

As for "(entry level) pc gameing has gotten too expensive nowadays" comments from others, consider:

One would be able to manage 60fps 1080p easily with a $160 rx6500xt, which is roughly in line with the historically "fairly decent and cheap" price point (without any inflation correction nonsense some people like to throw at you).

There's a whole range of video card options between the historically normal price range of $80-$400(ryzen 4600g), from the lowly ryzen 4600g's igpu right up to the rx6700 (non xt), the latter of which just happens to have the theoretical specs of the ps5's gpu.

The only thing one has to do is not follow gpu makers, tech press and some rather elitist enthusiasts, who are spreading this bizarre notion that one needs a $1000 video card to enter the hobby.

Steam Deck OS 3.4 Preview adds support for 8BitDo Ultimate Wireless controller dongle

Gentle reminder that fwupd supports 8bitdo's controllers. Not sure how it would be handled on the steam deck and other systems, but in ubuntu that means you can update their firmware with a simple click, directly from the software centre.

Updating firmware is very much recommended for older 8bitdo controllers, since that solves most problems with disconnecting and unusually high lag over bt.

The best Linux distribution for gaming in 2023

It's anecdotal, but for me the more recent lts editions of ubuntu have had an increase in papercuts (even after a fresh install), like the lock screen locking up (heh) and thinkpad trackpad drivers not being installed properly. Solvable issues, but they were not there in 18.04 and are not the sort of issues that newcomers would want to deal with.

Strangely enough (given that it is based on ubuntu), mint didn't have those problems.

There's still 100 watt and less cards on the market widely available, nobody's putting a gun to your head forcing you to get a higher end card.
...
I'm sure people in Pakistan are happy to know that nobody put a gun on our heads to buy goods with a high energy consumption.
