The Valve Steam Deck, lots of excitement and plenty to think about for Linux gaming

Not to mention that this new device's success is likely to stimulate other stores to provide better linux support. Who knows, there may even come a new competitor *gasp*, possibly dedicated to selling games targeted at the steam deck and other pc handhelds.

Other vendors? What other vendors? GOG still haven't bothered with Galaxy on Linux, Epic Games don't seem to care about their store on Linux, Humble Store sells Steam keys so they're in a good position. Honestly, if you end up buying a Steam Deck, why would you need look at any other store again?itch.io (an honest mistake, I am sure, but it shows the dangers of joining affiliate programs)

This change comes after 10 years of Humble allowing people to give them nothing. To play "devil's advocate" for a moment it's not even remotely surprising they want to do this though, they are a business and they do obviously want to always be able to pull in money from customersThe writing was on the wall when the site got sold to ign. That it is not surprising only emphasises the dubious ethics of the original owners selling their costumer base in this manner.

Seeing 7% might be quite surprising, since according to the Steam Hardware Survey which we track on a dedicated page, Linux hovers around the 1% mark but we've seen lots of other developers show higher than that too in previous articles. That is hardly surprising; those linux users are more likely to spend their money on a native linux game, so they purchase from a smaller pool of games, increasing the share of linux gamers for those games that support it.

It doesn't specifically state it's an issue for Linux and does mention Windows explicitly but the point is the same, you'll be vulnerable if you don't ensure you're up to date.Since the vulnerability is in a feature designed for remote boot (recovery) it is fairly reasonable to assume that it doesn't require windows to be functional or even present to be exploited.

Starting with the positives: I like that it's made of magnesium alloy and, wonder above wonders, both memory slots (and the ssd slots?) are non-soldered.
Negatives: yet another boring ultrabook design, cpu is going to temperature constrained, battery life is "meh" for the price.
It's not so much high end linux laptops that are a dime in a dozen, it's the ultrabooks that are. It leaves me very much with the impression that people are drop-shipping them from some aliexpress seller.

Quoting: RafiLinuxI thought itch.io was always up to the dev on how much they gave back to itch itself. Did that change?I may misremember, but my impression was that there was a range of 10%-30% to choose from.

It seems fairly clear to me that this project's underlying management problems are what are the real cause of it failing, not any inherent difficulty in getting such a niche product in costumers' hands.

Quoting: BielFPsFor me the best "mobile console" so far is an Android Smartphone with Retroarch and an Ipega joystick, Relative cheap, it works and has a lot of games if you know how to do it.Hard but do-able, there's several of these kinds of devices on (or coming to) the market (aya neo, gpd win).
I don't get it why it's still so hard to make something like this project to succeed, I mean there's obviously an market for this kind of console (based on the people who donate to it), the costs with hardware is probably the culprit I think.
