Sword Coast Legends RPG Released For Linux, Some Initial Thoughts
20 Oct 2015 at 11:00 am UTC Likes: 1

I don't like the idea of having to register to play the single-player game. Is it possible to play it offline at all?

About the voiceover when giving characters commands, is there no way to turn that off in the options? Baldur's Gate did the same thing by default, but then it had an option to reduce the voiceover to only happen occasionally, or turn it off completely.

The rest sounds pretty good. I wished I had more time, still haven't finished PoE, so I think I'll wait a bit before jumping on Sword Coast Legends.

Steam Controller On Ubuntu, A Tweak You Need To Do

Has anyone tried playing Mark of the Ninja with the steam controller? Doesn't work for me. Guess I'll keep playing with the Logitech for now.

Valve Looks Like It's Removed The SteamOS Icon For Games That Work On Linux, But Not Perfectly On SteamOS

@dubigrasu Thanks for checking!

Quoting: JoZ3Games from my library with the steam icon removed
- The Inner World
- La-Mulana
These are the only 2 I have from that list.
When starting The Inner World from BPM with Steam controller, it has a warning about not having a controller configuration. Playing it with the controller as mouse & keyboard seems to work fine though (only tried a few minutes). The game doesn't start in fullscreen, but that should be easy to fix - might already be fixed in SteamOS.
La-Mulana doesn't have any warning, but doesn't really work with the steam controller at all, at least I couldn't get it working. I ended up having to kill steam from the command line, because it didn't accept any input at all anymore. Tried changing some settings, same result. I'm still figuring out the controller though, so maybe I broke something. But it definitely didn't just work out of the box.
Turns out I didn't have all the permissions set correctly. Now it works quite nicely in La-Mulana.

Gone Home still has the SteamOS icon. It never worked in fullscreen for me, camera just get's stuck, I have to go to 900p windowed to run it properly. Just checked, still same problem. That would be the first game I'd remove. Does anyone here have SteamOS installed and can check if it works?

Quoting: Sn3ipenBut for example Starbound works great on desktop Linux without any configurations. Its just the launcher that requires a mouse that is the only thing i can think of as the reason for its removal.
But since the Steam controller can function as a mouse, I don't think it would make the game unplayable? I'll have to try that... But if I buy Starbound now, would it could as a Linux sale?

The Indivisible prototype is up now (and before the Mac version! :P). I've only had time to play for ~10min, but it runs well so far.

Saints Row 2 & 3 Are Being Ported By Virtual Programming

I'm OK with this, I can understand they don't want to do native ports for older games, and VPs ports have been getting pretty good.
I'm wondering about Saints Row 4 though. I think it's using (an iteration of?) the same engine, so if they port that natively, wouldn't it be easier to port 3 natively as well once they've put in the work?

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition Looks Set For Release This Month

Quoting: EikeNo mention of Linux or Steam OS in their latest Steam news... :-/

Just noticed there is also no mention of Linux on their preorder page [External Link]. At the bottom it lists PS4, XB1, PC, and Mac. Unless they consider Linux as PC, which I doubt in this case. Since the site is mainly about console pre-orders, I wouldn't think too much of it if it wasn't for the Mac logo.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition Looks Set For Release This Month

Quoting: scaineYeah, I'm and sure they said that they'd spent all that time on the Extended/Enhanced Edition so that their platform would be agnostic for future titles. And then, before the new Edition is even close to ready, they launch a Kickstarter with that kind of message.

Make up your mind, goddamit!? :D
Yep, that's pretty much when I stopped believing anything they say with regard to Linux. Also makes me wary of how well their engine (and thus D :OS) really works for Linux if it's still considered a port and still requires so much extra effort to release. But I guess we'll see about that at the end of the month... maybe.

About a year ago I was really excited for this. Now I just can't get hyped anymore. Larian have also done pretty much everything they could to make me lose all trust in them, so I want to see this actually running on Linux before I believe it exists and works. I hate being this negative about a game coming to Linux, but in this case I'll wait and see and maybe get it later.
