But none if this translates into your statement of 'They don't care'. That statement implies a motivation that's not backed up by your explanation.
I agree that I'd prefer better coded, better running games, I doubt anyone would argue with that.

Quoting: Guest(I'll sum up instead of a particular quote)[snip]I actually agree with most of what you write, including the part about better drivers across all hardware manufacturers. And yes, I'm sure Feral could and should put more effort into improving their code on all hardware and drivers.

Quoting: GuestYes, even the nvidia fanboys will see performance improvements if Feral upped their game. This name calling is getting tiresome. Not everyone who has a nvidia card must be a fanboy, some people just want the currently best performance. In this discussion, it's already been implied that people using nvidia are braindead, now fanboys. This doesn't contribute anything, and really doesn't convince anyone of your argument.

I think for Feral it's simply a matter of what makes financial sense. If you look at the GOL surveys, more than 70% of folks here use nvidia+prop. drivers. About 17% use AMD GPUs, but that's in turn pretty much evenly split between open-source and prop. driver. So you have <10% on Catalyst. This situation isn't Feral's fault, but they are faced with it and have to make the best of it.
It sucks though, because it's a vicious cycle that leads to a monopoly. It's not just on Linux, nvidia has a similar lead on Windows, and basically for the same reasons: unreliable driver support on AMD.
When the latest nvidia cards came out, new Linux drivers were available day-1, when AMD released Fury, it took several weeks (don't remember exactly, I checked some time after release and couldn't find drivers, checked phoronix, but I don't know how reliable that is).
I'm not happy with this situation either, but Feral's lack of AMD support isn't the cause, it's a symptom. I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Quoting: GuestFeral were the ones who said to me that they don't care beyond it working with the nvidia blobs. I have it in an email. That was for Shadow of Mordor.Could you quote their exact words on that? Don't know if you're allowed to...

Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough

That list you linked seems flawed, to say the least. Just checking a few games that I've actually heard of, according to that site, Tales of Maj'Eyal: Ashes of Urh'rok is Linux-only, which it isn't. SuperTuxKart may not be popular on Windows or Mac, but it does exist. Also, categorizing SuperTuxKart as 'female protagonist' is quite the stretch.
And is Eve Online really available on Linux now? At least on Steam and on the official site only Mac & Windows are listed. Fallout is listed as Linux as well, if that is true, I'd like to know where I can get that.
I've never heard of most of the games on that list, but I'd like to see a list of the supposedly 127 games with female protagonists that you can play only on Linux, not on Windows.

Quoting: zerothisWhy should having a high percentage of games for niche markets be counted as negative? More Linux games fill a certain demand than Windows does, that's good! Lets list the differences:Linux only has a larger percentage of 'niche' games because it has fewer 'mainstream' games. The absolute number isn't larger.
More than any other platform, there are a higher percentage of games on Linux that have female authors and femaleprotagonist. In fact, Linux has the most games outright that have a Female protagonist (higher number, not just higher percentage) http://www.uvlist.net/groups/info/femaleprotagonist [External Link]
Your turn everybody, start naming things where Linux is better than Windows.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Quoting: KeyrockFor anyone using *buntu, the Nvidia 355.11 driver is in the new "official" graphics PPA they added not too long ago. As long as you have that PPA added then "sudo apt-get install nvidia-355" will do the trick.I actually tried using the new PPA for the first time for that driver. It installed and worked, but then I noticed that I had lost the ability to overclock. The 'coolbits' option was still set in my xorg.conf, but it didn't show up in nvidia-settings. The manual fan speed option was sometimes there, but the clock settings weren't. I didn't try command line, so I don't know if it was just missing in the GUI. Should have checked that, but at that point I just decided to go back to manual install, after which all the settings reappeared. I usually don't overclock, but it's nice to have the option for some more demanding games.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Looking forward to this!
I'm a bit surprised that AMD isn't supported, wasn't there a line in a recent catalyst change log hinting at AMD support?
Anyway, my GTX 980ti is ready and already on 355.11.

I was considering backing Outer Wilds, but somehow using a new platform seemed like an additional risk. I'm curious how this turns out though.
But I'll likely be backing Harebrained Scheme's new kickstarter: BattleTech [External Link]. Kickstarter will begin next week, and according to their twitter the game will support Linux.

Anyway, I don't think calling them liars and arrogant is particularly productive. Putting the Linux version on GOG will require extra work, maybe not a lot, but someone has to do it, and I doubt they have anyone who has done this before.
I'm disappointed as well that the GOG Linux version is still not up, but it's been only about a month, while for Age of Wonders 3 it's been almost half a year. And name-calling certainly isn't going to make the game appear faster.

Quoting: throghAnother game also available on GOG but without the native Linux-version. Just like "Age of Wonders 3" and I call the developers for this game just liars because they used the arrogance to say it would be very difficult for them releasing a DRM-free game for Linux because of the Steam-framework. Want to laugh? Just the same comments came from the "Victor Vran"-team. :(I thought the Age of Wonders 3 devs said the reason was that patching was too difficult on GOG?

We’re sorry, but GoG currently just carries the Windows version.which I actually think is a weaker excuse than for Victor Vran, but it's difficult for me to judge.
When Galaxy hits this might change.
The issue is managing all the builds with updates in a DRM free environment. [External Link]

Age Of Wonders III Now Has Mods, Linux Support Included, But No Mod Tools For Us

Haven't played this since the Linux version was in beta.
But still no Linux on GOG :( I wonder if mod support actually makes that even less likely.
Makes Triumph's Linux support a bit of a mixed bag. I'm glad they support it at all, including mods, but I wished they went all the way.
Still, it's progress, and day-one support for mods is good news.

I finished the main campaign a while ago, really enjoyed it. I've been meaning to get back to the game since I think I missed some locations.
I've mostly played as vigilante with shotgun and sword build around critical hits, but I might try changing that up to give that new weapon a spin. Looking forward to trying this out!

Quoting: Mountain ManFrom what I undestand, outside of Steam it will simply function as an Xbox 360 controller. From what I read, it should function as keyboard and mouse. I'm not sure though how the keyboard part works though.
