Among The Sleep Developers Are Now Working On A Linux Fix

Quoting: scaineI understand the sarcasm from Hyeron, but I'm just glad that they've acknowledged the bug and confirmed that we're being given due care. I have plenty of games to keep me busy until I try playing this again. It's just frustrating that most of the internet will have moved on from caring about this game by the time I get to play it.
You know, I *wish* it were sarcasm, really.
But they don't even have the excuse of "too many distros, too much hardware". It happens on *MACS*, for Christ's sake. They didn't even take the first step anyone does (or at least anyone even remotely professional does) before release: test the darned thing.
Then they take a whole MONTH to acknowledge the thing and "be able to reproduce it" whereas most anyone with an nVidia can.
Then they SAY they're working on it?
Please.

And the worst thing is, they aren't the first, they won't be the last. :/

Yay, over one month to /reproduce/ (meaning there's no work done yet) an INCREDIBLY COMMON BUG AFFECTING TWO PLATFORMS. Way to give support. Next.
My wallet's happy what with all the horsedung going on right now.

Mostly Civ5 and VCMI, with a bit of Desktop Dungeons here and there.

Among The Sleep Still Unplayable For A Lot Of Linux Users
10 Jul 2014 at 12:03 pm UTC

Quoting: AstroThe situation is quite similar to Slender Man's Shadow. They sell the game that actually doesn't work. I hate that kind of disrespect to the customers. Devs of Among The Sleep, XCOM, Slender Man's Shadow have already shown not good examples. How long this list will be?
In what way did Feral show a bad example? Their XCOM port is flawless as far as I'm aware. Sure, it may be slower than Windows, but that's irrelevant. It's mighty playable, with no showstopper in sight. O_o

Straw. Camel.
I've had enough of them. Not buying anything from them in the foreseeable future.

GamingOnLinux Interviews Feral Interactive About XCOM & Linux Game Development

Well THAT is the spirit. Many should take a few lessons from them, their attitude and their support.
I'm glad I bought Enemy Within just to counterbalance my buying Enemy Unknown when it was announced, and I'll gladly throw more money at them whenever the next ports come.

Just A Friendly Reminder: Don't Buy A Game Until It Is Officially On Linux

Quoting: novemberistI wonder, does the windows version of the Steam client running under wine get recognized by Valve as running on windows or linux?

Just in case: Windows, thus.

Trolling Delays Linux Release Of The Stanley Parable
23 Jun 2014 at 5:49 pm UTC

Not exactly a solution. Thick skins don't grow on trees either.
It's a pity that some people aren't even able to hold any kind of standard on the Steam forums either; as said, this is far from being an exception. Bumblebee got a couple fugly trolls during the release of GhostControl Inc. too, due to their lack of experience (and dependencies). It feels strange fighting off what should be allies.
And the worst thing is, I'm afraid you're preaching to the choir.
Anyway, port or not, all the best, Gran PC. At least you're (have been?) trying. Hopefully TSP will come out someday, and if not, well... maybe the next game. :)

Do We Want Ubisoft To Support Linux?

Quoting: godlikeYes we want Ubisoft's support because they are making really good games. DRM no DRM who gives a fudge about this dispute? I just want to have a choice. And if someone doesn't like DRM he can always avoid clicking "buy"... that simple.
That's just it: They're denying choices. In Japan, they already have DRMs that only allow you to play a movie that you BUY (NOT RENT; BUY) only a set number of times on ONLY a single DVD/Blueray player before you can't play the disk anymore, in some cases even "self-destructing" (no boom, just it wont play). Games there have very similar DRMs (like only 1 computer/console). So if anything happens to the player (like X-Box, X-Box 360 often broke), you basically lose ALL your games instantly, no refund
Do you have a link to back all that up? I find this fairly frightening.
I think he may be talking about Flexplay [External Link].
