Taking A Look At ADOM, Ancient Domains Of Mystery Roguelike
1 Jun 2014 at 5:47 am UTC

Quoting: pbAh missed that part, sorry... So maybe only the ascii version will remain free? Or maybe by ADOM Classic they mean 1.1.1? Now I'm confused as well. ;-) Also I wonder what it is going to be priced on Steam, since they only promised the keys to backers who pledged $40+ :o
Plus, they already have ToME to watch over there. Wonder if they'll sell *at all* if they ask for more than their "competitor"...

Bionic Dues Now DRM Free On Humble Store

There's much more that feels wrong than just that, but as with every Arcen game: it's a diamond in the rough. :)

PS - I beg to differ. The title theme makes me cringe every single time.

Elder Sign: Omens Strategy Released On Steam For Linux
2 Dec 2013 at 4:00 pm UTC

I picked it up as soon as it came out. Already owned the Android version, albeit without the latest DLC. This one is exactly the same, all DLC included, and fit for glorious 1920x1080.
The price may seem a bit high indeed, but I don't think it's a problem for anyone into board games (see hereunder).

The art is as beautiful as ever (although the videos show typical compression artifacts), it's still as easy to pick up and infuriatingly unfair as it relies quite heavily on luck, one game lasts for around 1/2h, and it has all the replayability its origins induce.

Sure, they axed the final fights against the Great Old Ones, but the game is still highly enjoyable without them.
Best thing you can do if you're on the fence is check some board version gameplay on youtube or whatnot. :)

EDIT - Wait, "STEALTH"? Wrong tag is wrong. ^^

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Nearing Beta For Linux
28 Nov 2013 at 7:22 pm UTC

Excited enough to buy this immediately, no questions asked. :D

I highly doubt it's fake. They already support MacOS, unless i'm mistaken XCom uses UE3, which has been used several times now... Looks legit. Worst case scenario: I'll have to wine it. At this price, it's a risk I'm completely willing to take. :)

Valve Has Announced The SteamOS Built On Linux UPDATED
23 Sep 2013 at 6:45 pm UTC

Could this be dangerous for the desktop Linux client?
Welp... Yes and no. It's not per se. It's just YAD. Meaning it won't exactly help with the usual uninformed people/biased pseudo-specialists/average tools, and won't help the mythical Year of the Linux Desktop dawn (well yeah, you never know, but I don't think a distro labelled as a "gaming OS" could gain steam (no pun) as far as more... serious uses are concerned).
I don't think it'll be a threat to the average distro either. If anything, it'll probably be yet another *buntu spin-off - and apples never fall that far from the Debian tree on that side of things...
Plus it's primarily meant to be run on their hardware - as PC'ish as it will very, very probably be.
It's just that. Question is: how far-fetched would it be to use it as your computer OS? And therein lies the real question, methinks. It COULD become a threat to the only distro close enough to claiming the title to "the desktop Linux client", i.e. the most mainstream distro.
Not sure it would be a bad thing, either. the Ubuntu experience has turned sour quite a while back, as far as I'm concerned.

Unepic RPG game will head to Linux!
15 Jun 2013 at 5:54 am UTC

Welp, the only problem is... "A friend" of theirs has been "going to port" the game to Linux (as stated on their page and in this article) for AGES now (IIRC over a year). So I wouldn't hold my breath until I see actual proof.

(don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. I just DON'T see it happening any time soon or late)

FINAL EDIT: Close enough. August the 3rd, 2012 according to the Wayback Machine.

Little Inferno now out for Linux is seems!
23 May 2013 at 5:33 am UTC

Quoting: liamdaweThe game itself is odd, not something I think I will personally spend much time on.
You should, really. Just take it slow. It's not something you'll REplay, but it certainly is interesting..

A Thought on What Holds Linux Gaming Back
30 Mar 2013 at 6:39 pm UTC

Quoting: BumadarI just thought: If Valve would release Half Life 3 say 3 months earlier on Linux ...... then you would see a Steam/Linux increase you could only dream off
... That would plummet within weeks/months, and would soon show to be a bunch of whiners who switched ONLY for that, who don't give a hoot about any kind of value the average current GNU/Linux user has, who don't want to learn the specificities of the OS and want it to run and do things exactly as Windows does, who'd want an immediate and easy way of pirating the game, and who'd switch back to Windows as soon as they're done.

Quite frankly? I'd rather see the percentage of GNU/Linux users rival Mac. Just that. No more, no less. A few AAA titles every now and then behind the main Windows releases, and people who are WILLING to switch. For reasons OTHER than just one overhyped game.

Steams March user survey is out, Linux goes down!
30 Mar 2013 at 12:07 pm UTC

That would, in fact, make more sense (well, the Mint example would).
0.13 compared to last month's 0.17 would give us a -0.04... Doesn't remove the fact that the deltas or statistics are borked...
