XCOM 2 released for SteamOS & Linux, port report included
6 Feb 2016 at 5:25 pm UTC

Yet another thing to mention:
Feral Interactive has updated the upcoming releases radar. According to news on this page Batman AK is gone, XCOM2 is already released. Now there are only 6 games in total and only 2 are Linux titles. And both already discussed on this page. Sad times... Hope Mad Max and Tomb Raider will be officially confirmed soon and they will be ported by Feral.

This game is just poorly optimized even on windows as you can see. Don't blame feral for this.
Any knowledge what kind of software is he using to show cpu, gpu usage and fps and the same time? And maybe someone knows the equivalent software for linux?

Have to say I'm not surprised, but there is a no need to be pissed off atm. We have it all the time. Witcher 3 (a GAME OF THE YEAR), which I do love, on PS4 was (almost) golden after 3-4 months of release. Before when you had area with rain and fire it was about 10-15 fps. Last week I had an issue with it that all the people were shortened and it is 9 months after release already.

That's how it it currently. Developers are forced to release a game, and even if you buy Disk version (not the digital one) after month or 2 you have to download 10GB patch to be able to play the game. This is current reality of the gaming industry. Let's not blame Feral for now, let's give them time to make game golden.

BTW. on both in-game screenshot game looks awful. Where are all the shadows? Where is the source of the light? Yet another reason to wait with the hardware upgrade while there are other high costs in my life.

EDIT: Ok, on last screenshot there are shadows, but for some reason shadow of each person starts not directly from his leg, but some space after. I bet this is a Linux port version issue, so this is something that Feral will need to work on.
Hope the game is golden soon, and we all will have great game to enjoy!

XCOM 2 can be pre-loaded ready for release on SteamOS/Linux & exact release time revealed

Just wonder when will Feral's radar get updated. XCOM 2 is still not in Very soon section (it is in Soon) and Batman Arkham Knight is still in Quite soon section. Hope we will see some new titles on the radar.

Hmmm... I was just briefly looking for a new hardware because of the XCOM2 and number of decent new games coming to Linux and was going to buy one at the moment when Batman AK and Witcher 3 state is clarified. Now I see that Batman AK is not coming and nothing, literally nothing happened with Linux port of a Witcher 3 for almost a year. Now I'm pissed off.

Earth 2160, the RTS game looks like it's getting a Linux version on Steam
3 Feb 2016 at 2:39 pm UTC

Oh, sweet. I remember playing earth 2150, some time ago while there was a sale on GOG I was thinking about purchasing the whole franchise and testing how it behaves on Linux, now I know at least 2160 will be tested by me :)

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLLeszek Godlewski (ex The Farm51) who port to Linux Painkiller H&D and Deadfall Adventures, working after quit from Farm51 in The Astronauts on Ethan. Now Leszek quit from The Astronauts and now woking in People Can Fly. So maybe this is reason why we can get Ethan port for Linux?
Isn't Flying Wild Hog?
@dubigrasu you're right - it's Flying Wild Hog.
Anyway, as far as I remember Leszek left the whole porting business after starting to work on Darksiders port for Nordic Games (Source [External Link]. He did not leave gaming industry, but does not work on porting games to Linux. However I can see on his Linkedin account that he was working on Vanishing of Ethan Carter (but does not work anymore). So I don't understand what did @DamonLinuxPL mean while saying:

Fact that Leszek does not work on Vanishing of Ethan Carter anymore makes it less possible that we receive port of this game.

Tomb Raider, the awesome 2013 version looks like it's heading to SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: MGOid- I'm playing Grid Autosport and really appreciate Feral position related to non Nvidia users: "officially we don't support, by you can play anyway". Hope they fix the split-screen thought. And supporting all gamepads, not only the 360 one.
Not a single issue with Dualshock 4 (wired, wireless) while playing Grid Autosport, so that's not support of "only 360 one".
