Feral Interactive will livestream some XCOM 2 before release this Thursday

Quoting: babai(...)does anyone know if the linux version would be a compiled wrapper port like other feral titles(...)
You need to distinguish Feral Interactive and Virtual Programming. VP does ports with their EON wrapper, Feral does real porting to native Linux function calls. So we will receive first day one native port done by 3rd party. And we're all excited :).

Talos Principle & Serious Sam 3 getting Vulkan updates, Serious Sam 4 will be on a much improved engine

Quoting: linuxgamerFor me Talos and Serious Sam 3: BFE had a quite low performance. Talos went well as there is very few time depending action, but it was not possible to play a FPS like SS3, so I preferred to get a refund
Exactly - minus the refund.
I was thinking that my rig was not good enough for SS3 so I assumed I will be able to play it after hardware upgrade. Was the game playable for someone?

Anyway, it's very very good to see developers on Vulkan board :).

Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port on their radar

I just wonder, XCOM 2 is meant to be released on February 5, 2016. However it's still in "soon" section on Feral's radar. This port is in "very soon" section. Does it mean it will be released before February 5? I'm asking because in typical situation the answer would be obvious, but I remember Shadow of Mordor, that was flying from one section to the other before the release, so I wonder if someone knows something regarding release of this mysterious (or obvious?) title.

Steam now has over 1800 games available for SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: Mountain ManHonestly, I couldn't be happier with the current state of Linux gaming.
Impressive attitude, unfortunately I'm kind of the guy that always wants more. So there is always a way to become happier :).
But I have to admit, 3 years ago if someone would tell me that games that are available on Linux today will be playable on Linux I would not believe him. So in general I am also very pleased with the current state of Linux gaming.
For this year I am most excited about XCOM 2 because I loved XCOM: EU and this is the biggest title that will definitely be available soon.
I want to believe that Witcher 3 will be available as well, but I have already finished the game, so I will only buy it to support CD Projekt Red.
If Batman AK will be released and will have good performance this will be number 2 on my list.
Because I'm done with Geralt for now (before Blood and Wine is released) I guess for now Number 3 on my list is not yet occupied :).

This years GDC conference will have a very interesting Vulkan & DX12 talk from AMD

Medieval II: Total War Collection coming to Linux & SteamOS on January 14th

Quoting: omer666It's been also announced some time ago that the minimum requirement for Vulkan was GeForce 600 series and up, but that full functionality requires GeForce 900. Shifting the minimum requirements to 600+ Gfx may be linked to a future Vulkan adoption (yeah that's unrealistic but who knows :p)
Seriously? Do you have any link that I can look for this information? I'm not saying I don't believe you, I just need yet another proof for myself that time to buy new hardware has come...

Am I missing something or port of the game from 2006 released 10 years later will require GPU released in 2012 or later?
I understand that while porting classic games it's not required to have the requirements of the original game and the target of the port is Steam machine, so mostly the one with NVidia 800+ series, but NVidia 600+ series as a requirement of this port makes me not even considering this game. Mainly because my hardware from 2012 that costed > 1k dollars won't be capable to handle this port..

Quoting: Stupendous ManThen again, I'd kind of like to play through X-Com Enemy Unknown again first; after having played X-Com 2 I probably won't go back to the first one again.
Hope you didn't miss Steam deal with Enemy Unknown + all DLCs (including Enemy Within) for 5.99 euro. If you didn't or you bought the game already from other source, then XCOM: EU is a must to play for you :)

I have to say I'm little bit shocked, but very happy, that porting companies started to cooperate with game developing companies on titles that are not yet launched. Have to upgrade the hardware and join all of you playing XCOM2 in q2 of 2016 :).
