Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming

Few months ago I almost completely lost my faith in Valve. I was angry they killed Steam Machines by themself. I almost stopped to use my Linux PC for gaming (mainly because it is so old, it can't run any new title).
But recent news are super optimistic. Of course it's not golden yet. But it is a step to a moment, when Witcher 3, GTA V, Fallout 4 just works on Linux, you decided to buy them and those games are counted as Linux sale.
What's more - I hope all people that usually use Wine and run Steam games will switch to Proton - they will start to count as Linux gamers.
Personally I would like Valve to have this functionality before announcing Steam Machines. And I was talking about such a functionality long long time ago, so I'm glad Valve had similar idea here.

It's 32 degrees and I'm a programmer, that worked above 50 hours in last week. I'm not touching PC this weekend. Although I will play some Knights and Merchants next week though.
I was also trying to finally give a try to Baldur's Gate, but after beating Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny, BG seems to be little bit too archaic...

I personally don't have any title in mind. I would just love to have one new big player on Linux board.
Nintendo was able to bring Bethesda's, Rockstar's, EA's and Ubisoft's attention to Switch. I would love to have any of those companies on Linux board. And of course Blizzard would be the best :).

I read a lot of Witcher 3 and GTA V through DXVK. Does it mean it is mature enough and it is a pleasure to play those games?

I have an impression that this is a good moment to remind you that there is already Steam Link app for Samsung Smart TVs that works quite well with Linux Steam:

Quoting: PatolaPillars of Eternity is gorgeous, but I would still prefer if it were 3D like Wasteland 2 or Sword Coast Legends.

The biggest issue with this hardware is that it will run games meant to be played on bigger screen. It may be hard for many titles to read subtitles, menu items will be small etc. And like many already said - performance wise it may be bad.
Anyway, I hope it will be decent piece of hardware.
