Valve show off their new Steam Library design and a new Events page
22 Mar 2019 at 11:09 am UTC

Quoting: callciferWhat's the use case for that? If the game is already in your library, the key is no longer valid.
Sigh... CD Key is different than Steam key. Some games like Unreal Tournament 2004, Return to Castle Wolfenstein use CD Key aka LegacyKey which can be viewed in current Steam client in order to use for source ports and/or unofficial native releases.

Not to mention forthcoming Red Alert 2 mod. :woot:

Seems like there's no hope for BattlEye support within Steam Play

That's odd, BattlEye previously supported Arma III which was an eON port. It looks like VP's ports are compatible with BattlEye than Proton.

Ryan Gordon is re-working "sdl12-compat", a tool to provide SDL2 to software using SDL1.2

Quoting: GuestThank you very much this clarify the thing.
Now I'm also hyped by this project :D
I do remember the old days where Alt+Tab not working in games :D (Open Arena for example) Very annoying indeed.
Or applications moving my desktop containers/widgets when changing resolution. Never knew this was caused by SLD
There exists a SDL2 branch of OpenArena that you need to compile yourself. It works like a charm.

Quoting: liamdaweI've no doubt Mr Gordon is aware of this, there will likely be enough differences to warrant a new project. After all, Mr Gordon is one of the main SDL people...
Yeah, surely. Besides, SDLCL isn't perfect; it tends to crash on much older games like UT99, Rune; and has unsolved bugs which are recognized by dev but it has been a looong time since the last update. Having a more widely recognized and more actively supported library would be much much better.

Quoting: GuestI wouldn't doubt that he'll be browsing through sdlcl as well though, because open source is awesome that way.
Indeed it is. :-D

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI wonder also if there's anything out there to do similar compatibility tricks with old Linux sound stuff, you know like OSS and Alsa and whatever.
osspd, padsp, alsa-oss (aoss)?

Well, there's already SDLCL that's exactly do it.

I'm using it daily to force ETQW, Prey (2006) and UT2k4 to use SDL2.

NBlood, an open source port of the classic FPS 'Blood' using EDuke32
22 Feb 2019 at 5:51 pm UTC

Quoting: KlaasIt's open source. I've read that BloodGDX's source code should be release some time, but there has not been any sign it.
BloodGDX is based on leaked Blood alpha source code, therefore there is no way full source code release. Though, there already been a partial source code release.

If it's solely based on EDuke32, I doubt physics and weapons handling is authentic to original Blood. Therefore, I personally prefer BloodDGX.
