Quoting: pbWhen buying games ported by Aspyr or Feral outside steam, all you have to check is the publisher. Since these companies act as the publishers of their respective ports, and at the same time the games are 'steamplay', they simply sell their keys to game stores all around and it's not rare to see "aspyr sale" or "feral sale" at a given store, where they get their share regardless of the platform (yes, even if a windows user buys the game). Examples of stores where you can buy aspyr-published games are macgamestore.com or nuuvem.com, as well as smaller stores in many countries - they will probably not count explicitly as Linux sales, but the money will go to the porter, that is for sure. Both Aspyr and Feral have their stores respectively. The best way to support them is to purchase their GNU/Linux ports from those stores.

Quoting: TeodosioThey have invested millions in Steam OS, plus a big part of their reputation. If they want to be sure that it is a success they have to provide a big exclusive. That is most likely out of question. Otherwise Gabe Newell would contradict with himself.
Besides, as long as windows is around we are going to have problems.

Unfortunately, the game was not sold well, therefor the dev criticized the current form of the industry. Here is the comment of TotalBiscuit regarding the issue. The game looks nice.

Company Of Heroes 2 Launches For Linux On August 27th

Eventhough it breaks my heart a lot, I can understand the difficulty to make a crossplatform multiplayer release. As the developers stated on Reddit, if the netcode of the game uses OS specific libraries and rules; then it is extremely hard to provide crossplatform multiplayer support. Besides, there is an already established and active player base of Company of Heroes 2; it would be pretty risky to replace the gamecode of the Windows builds. I got it, fine. What I cannot get is the reason behind Linux vs Linux and Mac vs Mac multiplayer limitation. I mean, since both builds were handled by Feral, why did they not use same or Linux/Mac compatible middleware for multiplayer? That is a big shame...
