Valve seeing increasing bug reports due to Steam Snap - other methods recommended

Quoting: KimyrielleI am thinking of a really compelling reason to containerize Steam and can't come up with one...
The flatpak at least simplifies the story around the 32-bit libs steam still uses and updsting the rest of the system in a timely and non-breaking fashion. Fedora blocked my system update several times because of the steam required libs not matching what the repos had. And while less useful for Arch in that sense it did help me debug a couple of issues i was having with my controller

That looks amazing. Lack of a native port is disappointing though. The Steamdeck, having an install base of some size, should now be considered a native target for a game like this, especially when you pair it with their history of actually talking to Linux users. Now its not like Proton wont work or wont work well, we wont be able to know that til release, but its still disappointing

Maui Shell seems like a very interesting KDE graphical environment

Looks good. Quite like Gnome tbh but i dont see that as a bad thing, although it does make me curious if we'll see the same vitriolic complaints applied to it.

Gyroscope tool JoyShockMapper comes to Linux, Valve adds 'Flick stick' to Steam Input
19 Jul 2020 at 2:06 am UTC

Nice stuff, I've always liked the idea of doing the camera via the gyro but always got stuck because steam input's mapping was doing mouse like camera rather than thumstick/steering wheel like. This meant that any right turn turned your camera right which doesn't work when you've just turned left but need to return the controller to it's basic position cause that just turns you back to your old forward direction. The flick stick idea would fix this but a steering wheel mode would also be great.

Serious Sam 4 announced for August, confirmed for Stadia (updated)

To give Croteam the benefit of the doubt it's also not coming to Consoles yet seemingly because of the Stadia deal so it could be that the Stadia terms mean that they can't release it til after the exclusivity time has passed

Another small Steam Client Beta is up, better support for NTFS mounts on Linux

What problems were there for Ntfs mounts? Besides them being FUSE and thus have performance issues.

Bearded Giant Games open their own store with a 'Linux First Initiative'

Direct selling worked for very few games which is why we have the distrubution platforms we have. It may or may not be a good thing that its turned out that way but its the fact that people dont like having extra launchers and stores for things and they only put up with a few because they have to. Uplay is reviled still, Origin only not so because you cant buy ea games anywhere else. GOG looks like a cool store from a consumer point of view but lacks the big titles and are apparently not so great to devs behind the scenes. Epics new store is deficient in a lot of ways but represents a possible better inlet for devs than steam. Itch is fantastic if you keep in mind that 80% of the games are made with very low budgets and thus adjust your expectation accordingly. So i feel that this isnt a good move

Quoting: WorMzyAwesome news! I've been replaying the previous game in Crossover (works perfectly, btw) to rekindle my interest in the series. Gonna be looking forward to this!
When I tried to play it on Crossover 15 I got a black screen, how did you proceed?
The wine appdb says that you need to enable a specific setting.

The only slightly worrying thing is that Feral said there was "no news" about Denuvo being enabled. I'd be surprised if that thing was ported to Linux, but if it was it could that would be a problem.
Seeing as it might actually convince others to do Linux ports, like Doom or that new game by the Limbo creators, why exactly would Denuvo coming be a problem? Aside from the obvious dislike of DRM angle that is.

I agree. Even the normal puzzles of Talos Principle are way more clever than those of Portal, and for the really crazy people, there are the stars...
Some of those stars were brutal. I had to resort to the walkthroughs at points just because some of them were just too obscure, like that one with the sphinx
