Freeware = has no cost.
Free to Play = may include micro transactions and a shady business model (pay to win)
Free Software = open source and with a free licence, free as in freedom not as in price.
Slow day is it? ;)
Now now.
I'd hardly call this pedantry. This is a linux gaming site, afterall. I think of all places to maintain an accurate definitions of "free", surely this would be one of them.

Paradox Interactive reveal the first gameplay trailer for Surviving Mars
22 Aug 2017 at 4:04 am UTC

The announcement had be very interested, and now the gameplay trailer almost certainly locks it in. I'll always be up for a game set on Mars! [I've been playing Red Faction Guerilla with Wine to get my current fix].
Plus I'm always happy to support Paradox and day-1 linux support.

Paradox are now doing their own game client for downloads, cloud saves, statistics and so on

The majority of games I'm playing at the moment are Paradox games anyway, and I've pretty much bought everything they've released in the past few years at least. As long as the client is lightweight and works nicely, I'm honestly looking forward to giving it a ago. I'd quite like a way to concentrate all of my paradox games and see any news and updates.

Quoting: EKRboiwhat kind of severe mental illness would you have to have to think that using an API that locks your code to a single platform (DX12 -> Win10) is a good idea?!?!?! when you will have Vulkan that seems to be essentially the same thing and will work on ALL of those devices and platforms! (Vulkan -> Linux, Win 10,8,7,xp?, Mac, Android, IOS, PS4, PS3?, WiiU, Wii? etc.. you get the idea). Choosing DX would be insanity!
You know, I used to be pretty pessimistic about this; that Microsoft had the PC gaming industry under very tight control which has basically come from their utter dominance in the O/S of choice. Everyone [developers] used direct3D because 99% of gamers used windows.
I'd even argue that there is still that attitude; dev budgets are limited, and they want to maximise their return on investment. The case for bothering to support non-windows platforms was present, but still not enough to justify the budget of actually setting up a decent cross-platform dev environment.

However, I feel like the momentum now is definitely changing. We are at a big turning point where direct3D is really starting to not make as much sense, even for the big development teams. We've got some huge names behind Linux gaming, we've got some huge names behind Vulkan, and it's getting to the stage where Microsoft and direct3D are hopefully becoming the niche-product. I'd even argue that having the PS4 on x86 helps the case for big companies to invest in *good* cross-platform development, and that non-direct3D is no longer something to be scared of.

I'm excitied! :-)

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLAny know what performace is on fglrx driver? Is playable?
It's going to be heavily dependant on your graphics hardware, of course, but as far as the fglrx driver goes it's very solid with this game. I'm using an A10-7850K APU with the built in R7 GPU and the game is perfectly playable. Sometimes when zoomed in close on a dense area frame rate will drop down to 10-15 FPS, but it's perfectly tolerable for this type of game [also considering this is not a gaming GPU or a gaming PC for that matter!].
Not a single crash or corrupt texture/effect in my >10 hours with the game so far. Seriously impressed with how well the linux version runs!
