"Pretty woman get us to buy beer, ugly women make us drink beer!" - Al Bundy.

I played the first one to nearly 100% at 120 hrs, and I have put several hours into this new one, and I think she looks the same. I mean I know it's been years since I saw her, but she seems totally fine.
If you look at side by sides... to quote both my friend and brother (whom I sent the image to separately) 'they look like a younger Slug' (Slug in this case being a dude we've known for a long time.) They definitely look a lot different.

That looks to me more like a difference in the shots than a difference in the face itself. Like, the impression was different, but then when I looked at like the nose, or the eyebrows or stuff, I realized it was pretty much the same. The difference is more in the expression, in the amount of forehead you're seeing (because the 2017 pics were cropped and/or had headgear) and so on.

That's simply increased fidelity on her face. More polygons means more definition to how they want the character to look. Look at the ears, the left two you can clearly see the polygons that make up the ears while the right it's almost indistinguishable, though it's not helped by the '21 image being blurry. The most noticeable difference in the nose but as others have said I think that has more to do with the way lighting is improved in a more recent title.

The right looks more human because they have more fidelity to make her look more human. If that's your complain I don't know what to tell you.
Uhm... she doesn't look more human on the right, she looks more like a dude. Like I know a dude who looked like that when he was younger. The one on the left looks like the model they hired to create the character the first time around. There are tons of examples of this 'uglification' of female characters all over the internet. Not sure what to tell you, if you can't see it. Hell, I don't even see that many attractive females in my day to day, but the YouTube shorts certainly have thumbnails of them all the time.

Aloy in the first game looked perfectly fine, the one in the second one looks like she put on weight, had her jaw squared off, and made to look more manly.

There are a lot of the 'twitter mob' complaining about Stellar Blade, and how unrealistic the protagonist is. But she's created after a Korean model... that very much looks just like the character. Every example I've seen of the original model, and the character in game of recent games (Like Spider-Man 2) they 'uglify' her. That actually takes more effort than to just scan her face and use it as-is.

KDE Plasma app Ark gets support for self-extracting .exe archive files

Wait... did Ark not support .exe files before? Could have sworn I've opened these before with Ark. Though I switch back and forth between Gnome/KDE a lot (mainly due to drag/drop being broken in File-roller for way too long now). Doesn't Ark/File-roller both just use the same libunar (I think that's the one) that supports all the things for unarchiving?

GitLab takes down Nintendo Switch emulator suyu due to the DMCA

Quoting: NozoEULAs are still contracts, and not everything said in a EULA can be enforced, and contracts that involve illegal activities are void. Certainly private monopolies are one of them.
My understanding of a EULA is that they are not enforceable in anyway. They're not a contract, they're an agreement. Asking you to agree to terms for usage of the software.

If they were contracts and fell under contract law, EITHER side could contest any changes to that contract. This isn't the case for EULAs, as the companies can just randomly update them and in some current cases (like Roku) you can't use the device anymore if you don't accept their new terms. It's pretty much bullshit.

Founder of Baldur's Gate 3 developer blasts publisher greed

The funny thing about DLC; I believe there is a good use of it and a bad use of it.
Good use is the original intention (at least the first game I saw use it, before it was called DLC) was Bioware's Neverwinter Nights. Pay 5-10 dollars for a module using the same engine. Perfect! This gives you an entirely new adventure using the same game engine. If Doom had done something similar, where you buy the engine and then people could sell their total conversions for pretty cheap... well that sort of happened, but they were sold as full games, that would have been great!

If BG3 did that, where they just had the D&D engine out there and sold 'new' games that were basically just using all the engine work they've already done, they could crank out some great adventures.

Solasta seems to have done similar.

Where it went wrong was with Oblivion and the Horse Armor...

Quoting: ToddLGood thing I've rejected anything they've done for over a decade and counting and I'm glad that there are other games out there that interest me more than whatever they output.
Shameless plug for "Nintendo-style gaming, without Nintendo!", because there are plenty more fish in the sea.

Quoting: slaapliedjeHow funny would it be if the next Nintendo console actually uses Yuzu for backward compatibility... and then the FSF sues them for not releasing the code changes...
Quoting: ToddLI was thinking the same thing since they brought something about not being sure if Switch 2 was going to be backwards compatible and I'd love it if FSF did come after them for it
Not this time, fellas - all current signs point to it using an updated chipset in the same family as the current hardware.
I'd probably rather get a Legion GO if they sold a non-windows version, than I would another Nintendo console (my switch basically collects dust).

Quoting: NozoSince Yuzu is under the GPLv3 license, someone should contact the FSF to keep an eye on Nintendo and begin tracking any potential GPL violation perpetuated by the company, Nintendo may want to see how far they can stretch this.

Playtron plan to launch PlaytronOS, a Linux-based system for gaming

Quoting: PenglingGiven the names involved, hopefully this won't end up being yet another one of those cases where it's revealed as a Linux box and then there's a bait-and-switch to "Oops, we're shipping with Windows instead because people asked for it!". As a video game character once amusingly said, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, stop foolin' me.".

That said, I wish them all the best! I want to see this market-segment grow, and not get crushed netbook-style.
And The Who said they won't be fooled again!

Quoting: ElamanOpiskelijaI just wanted to play games... why are you guys forcing me to think?
What's forcing me to think is the blatant conflict between your avatar image and the distro icon next to your name.

(Just kidding. I'm pretty sure liking more than one distro is allowed.)
Ha, I use multiple distributions, generally I base it on 'what purpose do I want this computer for or which one supports the hardware best.' Ultimately that answer usually is 'Debian'. Occasionally, it's 'I want a specific thing that is maintained as a package in the distribution' so will choose Arch over Debian if it has it, or it's a more current version for a while.
