So what you are showing here is we need more RTX birthing pods to stop the GPU shortage? Ha!

Wonder when /if they will enable reproduction for Linux...

Edit: reprojection, (ducking phone!)

Quoting: slaapliedjeWhat ties it to the Pi? (asking as I don't know) as it's just an armhf .deb package. I don't know why you couldn't set it up on any debian based distro on something that supports armhf packages.
As far as I understand, it was made directly for the Pi GPU. Not something you can just quickly port over to a different ARM board.
Which has always been my problem with ARM platforms. I wasn't awaer of Steam Link's issue with this, but others for sure. Kind of weird they wouldn't just use dynamic libraries though.
But this is why I think ARM is not great for general computing.

Quoting: MayeulCThis is huge, especially the bit about they releasing it on flathub.

I wish they built it for ARM as well, though maybe it is usable in qemu-binfmt? Is it using HW-accelerated decoding with VA-API or similar?

I also wouldn't be surprised if it ends up reverse-engineered.
They've had a Steam Link App for ARM for quite some time.. You can install it within retropie quite easily.

Kind of. Technically yes, it's ARM all right, but it only works on a Raspberry Pi.
While the Pi is probably the most widely used ARM device for Linux, this is not always the case. ARM is growing in market share, slowly but surely, and is likely to eventually become the standard on most laptops.

For example, there are ARM laptops such as the Pinebooks, which are Linux-first, as well as the Macbook M1 and some Windows ARM laptops, which you can install Linux on. Steam Link doesn't work on those.

Valheim still growing with 4 million sales, hits top 5 of most played games on Steam ever

I've played the prototype when it was on itch.io before it was pulled. It's a fun game. I'd say it's a combination of factors. Fun game mechanics, interesting setting and increased interest in gaming in general due to the pandemic. So the game hit the stride.
Ha, yeah. My point was more 'but 4 million, holy shit!' than it was 'It's a pretty fun game.' 4 million sales this fast is pretty insane for anything outside of what most call a triple A game. I think the last time such a thing happened like this would be Minecraft, right?

Too bad Valve never really wanted to sell them to anyone. Just like the Steam Link. If they'd actually been easily available for purchase then they would have sold a ton. In Norway, you couldn't really get one outside of Ebay.
I agree. Valve doesn't seem to be serious about selling hardware. I still remember the lame launch of the Steam Machines.
The thing was, the Steam machines were not made by Valve, and they had wildly differing hardware specs. If they ever try for Steam Machines again, they need to do it themselves, and have a standard spec for them. The problem is that the PC in general doesn't work well as a gaming console because the hardware moves too fast. So let's say they build a box based on the currsnt Zen / Ryzen platform. Next year PCs will be able to outperform it by a lot, so a lot of people will just be upgrading. Consoles usually have a life of 4-6 years... nit upgrading a co.puter in that long of a time is an alien concept to most PC gamers, and they would just declare it is old, or that they could build a better spec themselves for cheaper, etc... all the reasons people say the VCS sucks ha.

I have to ask... is this popularity solely based on the game only being 20 bucks? Conan Exiles is pretty similar in scope, yet I'm pretty sure it never got anywhere close to 4 million sales. Especially not so quickly. Granted I think this does some random generation like Minecraft, whereas Conan does not.

I'd wish the developers luck, but clearly they already have it!

Hopefully the fame doesn't go to their head, and they get this into an awesome / epic state for years to come.

Google, Bungie, id Software all under fire in a new Stadia lawsuit

Quoting: t3gI can’t wait for Stadia to die out since it’s one big circle jerk here. I get it... Stadia runs Linux but it’s closed off.
I don't think you understand just how much Stadia is funding Linux graphics and Vulkan tools.
I'm not sure anyone does. I get the vague impression they've maybe been doing some of that, and I've tended to assume they must be because there's things they'd want improved to make Stadia work better, but as far as I can tell they've been pretty dashed quiet about it. Do you know anything about what they've actually been doing?
Yeah, I mean Valve is very public with various githubs, hiring developers that were already working on projects, etc. Do we see commits to Mesa from Google employees? They canned their on development studio, were they doing Linux development that will help anyone but them? I mean as far as I know, they don't even allow Firefox to use Stadia, right? They only support Chrome?
