The Hotline Miami series is launching on Stadia soon, WWE 2K Battlegrounds out now

Can't think of anything outside of Android and Google's engine themselves that they haven't eventually killed off because they were bored. If Android hadn't taken off like it has, it would be dead by now too. So unless they can slide ads into games, I could see Stadia lasting another year or two.

Quoting: EikeSo many people having said it's born dead...Nah, it is Google. Things from them are born very much alive, then they decide they don't make as much money as advertising, so they murder it before it becomes a full sized adult.
It seems to have a wild afterlife!

Anyhow, yeah the two games (and even game types) are completely different. One is a Computerized version of a Role-Playing Game, modeled after a Dungeons and Dragons campaign world called the Forgotten Realms.
The other being an Action Role-Playing Game light... not much role-playing it at all, and is basically a hack n' slash fest with semi-random dungeon generation and an absurd amount of random loot.
Though one issue I have always had with either are, why can't we see what weapon we're going to get when we fell a beast? Video games irritate me so much in that regard, then again so does D&D, as most DMs generate the treasure AFTER the monster is defeated. Shouldn't their random treasure be generated BEFORE? I mean if I'm an orc and I'm carrying a +1 Short Sword of Hero Slaying, I'd be damn sure to be using it in combat. Diablo is especially bad at this though, with showing these cool flaming / lightning swords that the demons are clearly carrying, then they drop a low quality bow.

Quoting: DrMcCoyIcewind Dale and Diablo 2 have two completely different goals and design decisions. You're comparing apples and oranges.Ha, I know I posted a rant about this comparison this morning, but now I can't find it.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 is out today, some details for you (plus new driver release)

Quoting: EhvisInitial benchmarks on sites dealing with less useful operating systems shows a fairly consistent gain of 25% over the 2080 Ti. Which makes it slightly less optimistic than what nvidia says, but still pretty good for current games. However, that mostly applies to 4K/Ultra scenarios (besides a few others that manage very high GPU loads on lower resolutions). But if that's what you want, this seems like a quite attractive GPU for the price. Nothing special enough to replace a 2080 Ti though. From everything I've seen, heard. Nvidia specifically was talking about close to 2x performance on RAY TRACING and DLSS 2.0, not the general performance gains (which you're right, seem to be 25-30%) but keep in mind the 3080 is at the pricepoint of the 2080, NOT the Ti, which makes it even more amazing that it's that high over the 2080 Ti.
It would be nice if AMD could finally put something competitive out, but seeing that the 5700XT barely breaks half the performance of the 3080, it's not likely the RDNA2 will suddenly compete with the 3080.

Quoting: RadicalDreamerThis makes me so mad. It was a disappointment when Rust and Rocket League dropped Linux support but they handled it better than these people who pretend nothing is wrong. I waited over a year for this update. I wouldn't even have bought the game if I knew the Linux port was abandoned. I tried Proton but it played terribly. Can you even fix the Phyxs issue in Proton? There is a refund petition in the Borderlands 2 Steam forum: https://steamcommunity.com/app/49520/discussions/0/2944747978653669496/ [External Link]The thing I don't understand with things like DLC, how could it even be that hard to 'port' it'd pretty much be just data files and some most likely minimal patching. Is it as simple as the contract between the porting company and publisher end after X time, and so they don't want to renew it?
I doubt anything will come of it because they waited long enough for the excitement regarding the new DLC to evaporate away before coming clean. Facepunch and Psyonix at least respected us as human beings. These people don't.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyNice! Yeah I never understood players who play the single task characters. My characters may not be experts at any particular thing, but they're going to be far more useful outside of a fight.Quoting: slaapliedjeI love those SF brainy characters; so versatile. I'm actually right now running a sort of fantasy equivalent. An Islamic scholar, Muslim Renaissance Man type, Abu Hamid Ahmed ibn Mohammed al-Saghani, with a full eidetic memory. Archaeology is one of his things, too, which is good since we're currently exploring lost elven ruins. He's also an alchemist.Quoting: Purple Library GuyYeah, we just barely had one session of a new game we started, as we got to a sort of decent place to stop and let someone else GM for mine. Then with everyone being paranoid and one of my friends working at the hospital, we have held off on starting up again.Quoting: 14Glad to see Steam has a demo button. I want to try it out. Only problem is, my friends and I have a fairly stable schedule of playing board games in person, so playing online isn't a large desire for us. I think I would need to add a different circle of players to get some use out of it.I was always an "in person" man myself, but with Covid we went virtual . . . we'd probably have gone to in person, at a park maybe, for the summer except one of our GMs is married to a doctor and so is being especially careful.
Shame too, because my Archeologist / Scientist / Engineer character is a hoot to play! Playing GRUPS Space stuff. Always entertaining when a GM asks in the middle of trying to solve an issue "Do you have archeology?" and I say "I do!" and another player says "What?? Of course YOU do!"
Gotta come prepared!

Frankly, I wish they'd FLOSS the original toolset, but that's a difficult situation to resolve from a contract/legal standpoint, I guess.

I got stuck on NWN's initial campaign many years ago, then lost my save game...
NWN is what I term as the first game to DLC and they did DLC right. It wasn't even called DLC back then, and doing 5-25 dollar modules was a brilliant idea to keep things interesting, and Bioware really could have kept that going had it not been killed.
Also, now on that subject, the term DLC is dumb anyhow, as Downloadable is one stinking word.... I guess they didn't want people to start pronouncing it as DICK if it were just DC.

Quoting: mosI thought the original campaign was fine, the problem was most people compare it to Baldur's Gate, which is a decent story, though I always hate it when games (even tabletop ones) go from being that you are fighting for your life to 'oh by the way, you're the son of a god'. That kind of ruined it.Quoting: DrMcCoytoolsetimo the only thing it's notable for
even the die-hards acknowledge that the OC (original campaign or whatever the NN nerds call it) rather sucks.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Shadows of New York out now for Linux PC

Granted, in my mind for STEAM, it shouldn't matter beyond Linux / Mac / Windows, as they don't support other operating systems. Nor do they support anything beyond x86. So for example, Tower 57 runs on Amiga OS4, doesn't mean I expect all sites to advertise that. Though review sites should for sure list all the platforms they're for and not just 'PC'. Back in the day, we'd just call them 'IBM Clones', remember that? Regardless of OS that was ran on them, they were all just clones, and the cool (nerdy) kids ran with the ST, Amiga, etc.

Quoting: AnzaThat's it, whenever any of us see someone being an ass and saying 'no support for Linux, because we want the developers to only concentrate on Windows' we should start asking for *BSD ports (because why limit ourselves to FreeBSD when there is NetBSD, OpenBSD, etc...)Quoting: PhlebiacYes, listing the individual operating systems is more helpful. I would really like to know if some game is actually released for FreeBSD...Quoting: slaapliedjeUnless... and this is a HUGE unless, we can finally get PC to equal Linux / Mac / Windows. What if my PC runs OS/2? Or Haiku? Or FreeBSD?
Problem in mainstream gaming media is actually little bit worse than listing just PC. PC might mean Windows or it could include Mac, Linux and Windows (Carrion for example). Or review could list just Windows even if game actually had Linux support right at launch.
So we really should be grateful for GamingOnLinux as it's lot more reliable source for Linux games than mainstream gaming media.
