FOSS Linux game launcher 'Lutris' has a new bug-fix release out
8 Jul 2020 at 1:28 pm UTC

I found that it is packaged in Ubuntu 20.04 and Pop_OS due to that. Started digging into why it is not in Debian yet. Apparently they were using icons nit friendly with the DFSG. But they recently got that sorted, if the bug reports are to be believed.
So hopefully soonish, we will have packages in the 'motherland', which usually means we will have great packaging quality.

Well, I just got an email saying the 800 version (cute that they are invoking the most classic of the Ataris, the VCS and 400/800) is up for pre-order for 389... which does shoot it square into PS4 prices.

Frankly, it's become quite a meaningless label with no clear definition that generally boils down to damn difficult combat.
Every label gets stretched but I think "Soulslike" means demanding skill-based combat (punishment of button mashing), and a death-system that requires you to retrace your steps to get back some precious commodity (souls, salt, money, etc.) lost when dying.

A measured pace and slowly revealed story seem to also be common. Generally, punishment for not being careful...

I am not a souls expert, but have enjoyed several soulslike games.
Souls-like to me translates into : You'll play it for a while, get stuck on some boss and frustratingly realize you've put in enough time that you no longer qualify for a refund, but you'll probably not play it for sometime, and by then you'll probably have arthritis in your joints so bad you can't actually move fast enough, then sigh because there is no cheat code.

:P

Quoting: g000hMy birthday is close to yours. Personally, I've always taken off my birthday as holiday every year. And when I was a kid, my birthday was in the Summer holidays so I never went to school (doing school work) on my birthday either.
Speaking of July birthdays. Two people I know have their birthday on July 4th.

In a conversation one of them had with a friend and I went along the lines like this, "My birthday is on the 4th of July!" "Yeah, so is Mike's." "Yeah, we're both Cancers." (both me and my friend simultaneously, "No shit." "Huh?" (with extended look of puzzlement.)

Still laughing about that 25 years later.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI wonder if there was an alternate version of macOS
elementary OS?
Quoting: slaapliedjeif Apple would end up doing a lot of the things that they have done in past.
They are going to use ARM processors for their next computers and turn macOS into iOS, locked down completely and without x86 compatibility.
Elementary OS isn't an alternative to macOS, as it doesn't run macOS software. For example, if ReactOS was actually a full featured, completely stable release, how many people would use Windows? I'd switch to ReactOS in a second if it ran all the Windows software that doesn't work under Wine.

If there were a 100% open source solution for macOS software that ran closer to the PPC era macOS in functionality / look. I bet a lot of Apple users would leave (from my understanding, most don't like the direction it took after they switched to Intel, it just seemed... less cool.)

A good example would be if macOS had kept compatibility with OpenSTEP.

Yeah, that's why I was saying if it had come out like 2 years ago (it's pretty close in price / spec of the original PS4), it may have been worthwhile, and maybe developers would have worked on it. I mean they say they have made 500 to send out to devs... but like who? You'd think they'd announce 'something' was coming out for it. I mean if it just runs Steam for Linux, I'd actually be fine with that. I think price wise, it was below the price of the (current) PS4 price (sitting around 360 on amazon), and definitely the PS4 Pro (~450). I think the PS5 was rumored to launch at 550?

So really price/spec wise, it basically matches the PS4 (it's about 60 cheaper, but also doesn't come with any physical media, from my understanding, and is a tad slower).

But I still think if it had released the same time they announced it, instead of making a bunch of people bitter, it may have gotten a decent following.

As it sits now it's a lot of Taco jokes, and not a lot of gaming going on. You're better off buying Rebooteroids and a Jaguar :) (though to be fair, for the price of that, you can buy a PS4).

Quoting: elmapuli'm still wondering who is the target audience for that...
I for one think their needs to be a third competitor!

Not that I'm saying Atari is in any position to be that, but you basically have Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo is still around, but the Switch is a middle range.. is it portable, is it not? system, so kind of weird, and low powered at that.

What would have been cool is if Sega and Atari had teamed up together to build a system (and it came out at the appropriate time / place / specs) AND wasn't trying to be a computer and was only really a game system. That's where I think Nintendo got it right, it's not a multimedia system like the Xbox / PS#.

I'm sure some of us would appreciate just a dedicated gaming console for once. Can't tell you how many times I've booted up my PS4 to play a game with my brother, and then we had to wait for the OS to update... then the game to update... It actually makes me not want to play that often.
