Quoting: Alm888Sounds like it is more like the excellent Sorcery, Fighting Fantasy, and Lone Wolf type books, vs just the run of the mill Choose Your Own Adventure ones.Quoting: ShmerlSo it is a visual novel after all. It's good that they plan to release it for Linux. Looks like we are getting quite a number of visual novels set in the World of Darkness. No, it is not, IMO. Visual Novels are simplified versions of text-based adventures (or "Choose Your Own Adventure" books). This game is aiming to be what effectively is a VN precursor: story based, but with stat checks.

Kind of seems to me SteamOS isn't so much dead as it is slumbering. I mean as it stands, it is Debian based, which means it shouldn't really be getting massive updates until Debian does. Though did they ever release a Buster based version?

On the other hand, I have bought pre-set up flash cards before. But never from random people, more like from places that build flash carts. It is more of a donation ware in my eyes.

Quoting: cere4lYou mean like people who sell CoffinOS (for those that don't know, CoffinOS is a compilation / Pre-setup 32gb image meant to be copied to a Compact Flash card for use on an Amiga with a Vampire accelerator board. But people have started selling it for people who can't figure out how to image it... in my opinion, if you are incapable of putting an image on a card, you are probably incapable of figuring out how to use the Amiga in the first place...)Quoting: DesumA bit late, but I felt I had to respond to this. As I said, I'm NOT against piracy. It's the paying for piracy that specifically bothers me.Quoting: cere4lI'm a bit on the fence about this one, strangely enough I have no issues with emulation, or with paid games.. and yet it seems so odd to have to pay for what is effectively.. pure piracy in 99% of the usecases if not more.Hundreds of years from now, it will be thanks to "pirates" that people will be able to play the games we have enjoyed in our lifetimes. NOT the large corporations who cannot even be trusted as custodians of their own source code. "Piracy" isn't even a necessary evil, it is an absolute good for humanity in the long run because of the oppressive copyright scheme we had foisted on us.

We have a frightening amount of people gathering together bwcause they think the earth is flat and gravity isn't a thing... but really the people like that have always been around, the Internet just gives them a place to spread their idiocy.
Companies doing shady shit has always been the thing they do. They play on that boarderline between shady and unethical, to almost illegal. It is just now we have the internet to interact more "live" with what is going on!
Current Atari is rather "new" at this game, and so they just suck at it more than the big corps who do shady shit all the time!

Quoting: dpanterIf you're interested in some fact based opinion pieces on YouTube, YongYea has released 2 videos in the last few days summarizing the shady history behind the VCS and Atari's questionable business practices.I have been thinking lately, somewhat related to this, about how much the world has changed with the internet.
It's quite a lot to take in.

Funny thing is, I don't think they ever proved it was Kool-Aid, and it was just punch. On the other hand, Woodstock had actual Kool-Aid laced with LSD, so it is fun how different sayings are created. I am sure the Giant drink guy would rather be known for tripping out hippies than the deaths of 900~ cultists.

Quoting: CatKillerThanks, I was going to point that out.Quoting: EikeIt's a reference to the Jonestown Massacre.Quoting: ShmerlYou should think beyond koolaid logic here.(I don't know what that means, seems to be a US thing.)

Funny thing is, beyond some specific distributions (like Pop_OS that just works out of the box), the most hassle free experience I've had with Linux and accelerated graphics drivers has been the Matrox Gxxx cards! Remember they used to just work fully out of the box, no binary blobs included (though I think it was a case of some features being in a firmware blob?).
Too bad they bailed out of the race to the fastest card, and just went with best display and MOAR monitors!

What I hate is the application level stuff becoming flat design and icons becoming complete garbage, and far too colorful and bright. Give me an icon I can actually understand wtf it is...
And this toolkit sadly looks like more of that. Fortunately we have a lot of choice in Linux, so us angry people can still use old apps generally speaking!

Quoting: apocalyptechI'm always happy to see new options available on Linux, but maaaaan do I despise the mobileification of desktop UIs. One of the reasons I ditched Gnome once they got to v3. My desktop is not a phone, and shouldn't try to pretend to be one. I know I'm a bit of a dinosaur, but I want my desktop to take advantage of the fact that I've got a large monitor and don't need buttons to take up a quarter of the screen, or be reduced to little stylized icons just 'cause that's all that'd fit on a phone screen. Like that gigantic green waste of space on the left in that thumbnail up there, lack of proper menus, popups which insist on being in-window which don't let me take advantage of any of my Window Manager's native features... Just ugh.The funny thing is, I like Gnome actually. Once you realize it's mostly made for shortcuts and screen space (getting rid of the always on dock, etc) and once they fixed the 'always full screen apps', it became quite usable.
As I say, I'm glad that folks who DO want that kind of stuff have more options available, but I'll personally stay far away.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYeah, I kind of think the same for the Steam forums. You dare ask for a port and there is always someone who decides they should take time out of everyone's day to say Linux sucks and if you want to game use Windows... freaking turds is what these people are.Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoThe Mint 20 Cinnamon is ideal for former Windows 7 users... Specially if They use the right tweak [External Link]I have noticed that every time I see an article relating to Linux as a general use desktop that might interest Windows users, somebody always comes along in its comments claiming to be a Windows user who has spent time recently, recently mind you, switching to or trying to switch to Linux, and they always claim software has to be installed from the command line etc. etc. in Linux.
Every. Damn. Time.
I have begun to think that Microsoft has some PR company on call whose job it is to browse for such articles and go in there with a sock puppet or two and recycle old anti-Linux propaganda while pretending to be sympathetic.
