Aspyr mentioned it's in sync right up there in the article. :)

Imperator: Rome release date announced for April with new trailer plus a Paradox Humble Bundle!

Paradox games are easily my favourite strategy games.

I have so many plans for this game. I think I was never before so exited about a game before its release.

Started playing Paradox games with CK2. Eventually I started wishing that they would make an alternative to Galactic Civilisations and something similar to CK2 but in the roman era. My dreams came true with Stellaris and soon with Imperator.
Ahh...Galactic Civilizations... That brings back memories... What a wonderful OS/2 native game that was.
Yep. Wardell made a bad bet that OS/2 was going to be a major player. Of course it would have been if Bill Gates hadn't stabbed IBM in the back.
Imagine how different the world would have been had IBM won that particular war. Especially now that they eventually bought Redhat...

Quoting: slaapliedjeMy understanding of it is this is before (timeline wise) all of them. You've got Imperator: Rome -> Crusader Kings II -> Europa Universalis -> Hearts of Iron -> Surviving Mars -> Stellaris.

Granted I don't know if Surviving Mars and Hearts of Iron is in that, but it sort of fits. My question is, are you going to be able to convert from Imperator all the way up to Stellaris at some point? I know they have one from Crusader Kings to Europa Universalis.
Surviving Mars is a completely different genre. It is more of a City Builder and not Grand Strategy. It is also originally not a Paradox Development Studio game but has been developed by Haemimont Games.

The order for the Grand Strategy games is:

I:R -> CK II -> EU4 -> Vic2 -> HoI4 -> (Stellaris)

Where Stellaris is not really a "continuation" as there is an obvious jump between it and HoI4
ha, yeah I was REALLY iffy on throwing Surviving Mars in there, but it kind of padded the time frame between HoI4 and Stellaris. Kind of forgotten about Victoria 2, because it is really old.

Quoting: Mountain ManWow, that trailer gives you absolutely no idea what the game will actually be like.

At any rate, it will be interesting to see how Paradox is able to distinguish this game from Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is going to get some fancy shaders

Quoting: slaapliedjeMaybe NWN is another game we should get a persistent world set up for Gaming On Linux users. :)
Hmm, I might look into this. :)
That'd rock. I'd do it myself, but I don't have time to maintain it, design it, etc. Would love to play though.

Would be cool if they could figure out how to add real time ray tracing for those that have cards that support such things.

It looks beautiful in Quake 2.
They are building a new renderer eventually, so they might include ray casting/tracing. At the moment they are more focussed on adding the texture layers they need to make a new renderer worthwhile; without normal mapping, displacement mapping, and additional material properties, ray tracing wouldn't help much except to improve shadows.

They look to have done a good job improving the static assets where the low-poly geometry doesn't matter, but the characters/monsters now look a bit out of place. Maybe they can use tesselation to automatically add extra character-smoothing geometry.

I think I might have to take a closer look at their plans...
I'm hoping they hire someone to specifically look at making the toolset cross platform finally. I think that would help get the hacker ultra nerd people that tend to flock toward Linux to build modules. Of course maybe I'm dreaming and most Linux users these days aren't the weird cyber-dwellers they used to be :P
I expect the toolset works pretty well under wine, given how old it is. I think a new toolset may eventually be required if they change a lot of the underlying tech. As long as the data formats are published ( and I'm sure they will be ) a Linux hacker ultra nerd could build their own toolkit :D
There was at least one (I think probably two or three) projects to build toolkits, but they ended up in open source limbo.
It's been a while of course, but last time I got the toolkit working in Wine it was unstable and slow. Kind of like the GURPS Character Assistant. It works, it's just slow and a bit buggy (like windows don't update like they should).

X4: Foundations to come to Linux with one of the next major updates

Quoting: slaapliedjeso I can fly in space in VR under Linux?
X4 is non VR.

Otherwise, though, I'm incredibly excited about this title. Reviews, even with bugs, have been terrific.
Dang, once you play a Space sim in VR, it's hard to go back to not VR.

Valve's card game Artifact seems to be dying off and fairly quickly too

Quoting: slaapliedjemaybe I am the odd man out, but I just don't 'get' CCG games that are digital. It's not like you can actually collect anything, it's all 1s and 0s.
You certainly lose something in the transition, but what you gain in possibility space is substantial. The game can keep track of hit points, buffs, and other effects. You can have an ability with random elements, like damage a random enemy on the game board, you can even have a card transform into another that neither you nor your opponent has.

As I said, I'm sure something's lost between mediums, but as a game developer I find the possibilities of going digital really interesting. Like going from the tabletop role-playing games of old to the first computer RPGs; except in that example it's actually the older medium, I'd argue, that has so many more creative possibilities. But both have their strengths :)
Yeah, the strength of CRPGs, is usually that you don't have to find other players for it, but then you lose all that interaction.

The advantage of CCCGs would be that you won't have 'friends' trying to steal your most valuable cards (like happened with some of my 'friends' and their need to steal my MtG cards...

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, is it bad that I didn't even know this game was out because I hadn't seen the 'out for Linux'. So here's my question... will this somehow replace Elite: Dangerous for me so I can fly in space in VR under Linux?
Yes! Because that means you haven't paid enough attention to GoL. :D
To be fair, my brain probably was thinking "it's not out for Linux yet, will wait." and that translated into "it's not out."
