Nah, for a game this old it probably only uses a small amount of the spec. On the otherhand DX 11 requirement means that it requires Windows 8+, right?

I am not sure they would need rights for that, since they would still be distributing the same stuff they already were, they would just slap a wrapper on top. The problem becomes though that they would have to be the ones who had to cover support costs. Let's face it, probably a large majority of the reason we don't get all the games is due to support issues at this point as opposed to actual technical limitations.

Wasn't there also work to add Steam Controller support to the Linux Kernel?
The next Linux patch for Civilization VI will be out soon with cross-platform online play

Found out why it's broken on my system. Apparently it depends upon libssl1.0.0 and Debian Sid is now running with libssl1.0.2 (and most things are using libssl1.1.0)
Hopefully they address this in the patch.

Quoting: GuestI already have the Steam versions, but we should try that out and get some Linux gamers to play (whether GOG or Steam). Still haven't sat down and played Forsaken beyond seeing it starts up. Been working on Unepic.Quoting: DuncThanks, I'll be sure to check it outQuoting: GuestTempting to pick it up, though I have no nostalgia over this game so wouldn't know if it's worth itMe neither, but there's a source port of the original [External Link] which you can try out for free. The binary download includes all the assets apart from the music, which... well, I'm just assuming it's all above board and legal, since the project seems to have been around for at least a decade. Anyway, having messed around with it for a couple of hours I have to say it's not really my kind of thing. I can see why it blew people away back in the day - being a child of the '80s, I totally get the garish colours and OTT sound effects - but it hasn't aged well.
Would love to know though about steam/gog crossplay for this game, would even be willing to purchase the steam version of Forsaken with any of you guys willing to test it with me, and then I'll refund and buy the GOG version
Still waiting on Turok 2 for linux on GOG, don't have any nostalgia for that game either but also would like to know if that will have windows/linux and gog/steam crossplay multiplayer
That's what I really liked about Overload that came out recently, being able to play with my windows friends, on linux, with no client with a drm-free gog version, and just "play" online mp... feels great, really want the same thing for turok 2 and forsaken

So once I get that worked out, I'll be sure to see if / how it works under Linux. There was an update to SteamVR earlier, so I'll see if I can try it out in the morning.

Quoting: tuxdeluxRespect to icculus for sure, but I just want to shout out to the Overload developers, who also just finished an amazing 6DoF game, in the spirit of Descent. Maybe because of the long early access that it had, but I have not heard as much excitement as I expected, for such a great game.I keep meaning to try it out in VR on Linux, but unfortunately my system went from being slow/glitchy to now it doesn't want to display the output to the headset.

GOG have added a bunch of Hidden Object puzzle games from Artifex Mundi

Quoting: KelsAgree with the others. I got a bunch of Artifex Mundi games in a Humble Bundle a while back, including the Grim Legends series, and while the stories and acting can be pretty cheesy at times they're actually pretty charming for all of it. The puzzles are fun and the art is uniformly amazing, which is always a plus.Same here, I even beat a couple of them. Good to play on the phone too, at least if you have one with a stylus. Good time wasters.
Football Manager 2019 announced and sadly it's not coming to Linux

For what its worth, I have over 1000 games on Steam that are listed for Linux. So yeah, there are people who buy lots of games that use Linux.

Quoting: omer666That is because ZeniMax is not friendly to anything that won't rake in tons of cash. Linux is still one of those things that companies think are impossible to support, and yet even the minimal amount of support is still going to be needed for a port. Bethesda's stuff for example is known to be horrendously buggy upon release and even after years of patching. Imagine them trying to debug that under Linux. If they had some knowledgeable people, then it could be done better than other platforms for sure.Quoting: liamdawe...and there is also a much older iteration with id software that proves Leopard's point wrong. Everything was operational on Linux, yet they said "it doesn't generate enough money" and didn't release Rage on Linux, even if every single game before got released on our system since 1993. John Carmack even stated that if we want games we should rely on Wine.Quoting: MVinhasI bought a Windows Phone smartphone back in 2015. I really liked that OS and didn't care about being developed by Microsoft. Windows Phone was at his peak, with a good set of apps (nothing like Android or iOS, but still) and a decent performance. Then, the company A stated that they will not release the next version of their app on WP. Ok. Some weeks later, Company B anounced the same. And the downfall of WP started, IIRC on late 2015.Rust, according to one of the developers, is only a temporary situation due to Unity issues and driver bugs. Their situation can't really be compared with this, since they didn't directly remove support due to sales.
I hope this isn't happening on Linux Gaming world, Rust abandoning Linux was a huge letdown, now Football Manager...two AAA games and I really like both. Thing is, since 2012 until this date we didn't had news like this, the number of AAA games was always increasing. I'm kinda worried because I've seen this before.
This isn't the first time we've had news like this and it hasn't really changed anything when it happened before. There's The Witcher 3, Darksiders 1 & 2, Carmageddon, Street Fighter, Project Cars and plenty of others. So yeah, it's happened before, will happen again and nothing's really changed overall in my opinion.
It was way before Steam on Linux, and yet, Linux gaming got bigger anyway. It just got bigger without them.
PS: Yes I do write a lot about this story but it really felt like a betrayal to me. They even ended Linux support for Quake Live, which drew all players from Quake 3, so I can't play that game online anymore. And I've been consistently playing Quake since the first game got released on Mac OS. That is pretty sh*tty.
