The Linux-powered games console the Ataribox has become the Atari VCS

The thing is, depending on the potential power of this thing, it's actually something that I think is sorely needed, and I tried arguing that fact in the AtariAge thread.
By that I mean I want a little miniature computer that has enough power sitting under my TV that is silent but will play my Steam Library. I do have the Link, but it's not quite powerful enough.

No, screw you Liam, you're a dick!
Just kidding, I already give you money through Patreon, you're doing an awesome job here.
Curious, how feasible is it to just set up a shop that sells GoG/Steam keys? That'd be kind of cool.

I just started figuring out the Rover before I stopped playing for the night.
I actually started with the 'easy start' option, wasn't aware you could change your sponsor. But man the researching goes slow... I'll have to play around with it again.

Quoting: liamdaweI do have to say, since the livestream, my concern about playing it through a second time is basically null. I had absolutely tons of fun last night. Playing with a different sponsor and so on really does change up how you play it, quite nice.Yeah, the zoom level is weird, it's either really far in, not far enough out, or too far.
Certainly agree the zoom-out needs to let you zoom out a little further.
The drone selecting issue also isn't as big an issue as I first thought either, especially when I started to make use of the drone RC car better and understand it a little more.

Quoting: MintedGamerI've not seen the text bug either (Linux Mint Cinnamon w/ Nvidia 970).Weird for some people not seeing the text bug, what version of nvidia drivers?
I'm really liking the game so far.
Civilization VI: Rise and Fall shows off overview of new features

Ha, a month old thread isn't necro'ing it. I hang out in the Atari forums where a thread will be from 2003 and then I see posts pop up 11 years later asking if there was anything new... then silence for a few more years... then another bump.
I kind of thought someone said they were going to bring the DLC to Linux.
Here's the problem with the Civilization franchise. It took SO long for Civ3 to come out after Civ2 (due to rights, IP ownership, whatever) that everyone was extremely excited about it, and it did great, and all that. Then a few years later we got 4... then 5.. then 6. But Firaxis has dove down so deep into the "We'll release a game that is less than it's predecessors and just patch in the features/game play of the previous games in with DLC, and once it is a 'GOTY' edition, it'll finally be feature complete to $version -1." method of development, that people are just getting sick of it.
So I was looking at something unrelated last night, specifically for maps of Faerun (Forgotten Realms world in case you never played D&D, or just don't remember what the world was called for that setting), and found that someone had made a fantastic mod for Civilization V, but there were talks of doing crowdfunding for the Civ VI version. I mean sure people put in a lot of time and effort into mods, but if people are trying to crowdfund mods, they should probably just get hired by Firaxis to write scenarios for the game!

I just played for a few hours, but had to stop not because of the text bug (thought it was annoying, it does kind of break some of the play-ability when it says your power assimilators say they need at least '200' to be able to supply to the power grid, but then you look at the funky font and it's basically 20 with an echo of another 0, so it means 20.... or when you can't see how much your transport is carrying of a certain thing because it says you have 200 metal, when you only have a capacity for 20.
BUT, the most annoying thing for me is the interface. It was already mentioned you can only select one drone at a time, but the thing that bugged me the most, that I hope they fix is the zoom level...You can zoom WAY WAY in.. like you can kiss the drone practically. But you can't zoom out far enough, and it hits a sort of... wall I guess you could say when you use the mouse wheel to zoom out, you keep trying to go further out... then it eventually just goes to the whole map overview. It's annoying when you're trying to send your exploration rover to a spot to analyze it.
Otherwise if you like a really slow build up game, then this is a good one. I agree with Liam's comment about not sure about a second play through, since it does start SO slow.
I guess once you know how to lay things out better (yes, wind turbines are pretty much required everywhere), you could potentially just lay 'em all down and then speed it up 5x and watch things grow, only to occasionally go back to normal time and make sure everything is repaired (things deteriorate at a decent pace).
Overall, I think it is capable of having great potential, but the UI needs some serious work, and the text / number bug is rather annoying. Ha, the 'on' usually is missing part of the n, so I keep reading it as 'or', which is funky, then it looks like it just scrambles or shrinks random words like 'resources' everywhere.

Oops, late at night, forgot why I was looking this up. I accidentally bought this DLC before I remembered that it hadn't been released for Linux yet, and then sat here for 20 minutes wondering why it wasn't downloading!

The weird thing about the civilization games (I've played them since the very first one) is that all of the modern ones (by that I mean Civilization 3+) have just had chunks of things that were missing from Civ 1 and 2. Hell, I played through maybe a single game of Civ3, and it just didn't feel as good as Civ 2 did (still my favorite). While I bought Civ4, and actually have a physical copy of 2-4 in this grand set; https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Sid-Meiers-Civilization-Chronicles-FACTORY-SEALED-PC-RARE-collection-2-3-4/152552062218?epid=56278246&hash=item2384cfbd0a:g:-qwAAOSwi7RZHKWb [External Link] Ha, I can't believe how ridiculous of a price that is... I don't think I ever played it.. like at all.
Sadly these days I don't have time to spend 24 hours straight playing Civilization, like I used to, so I've still only finished a full game through 5 once, and I think I've tried a few times to start one in 6... :P
You'd think by number 6 they would have stopped excluding things on purpose. Hell at this point what new do they bring to it besides an updated graphical engine?

Fast-paced neo-retro shooter 'Tower 57' is still coming to Linux

I was kind of hoping for an old school Amiga port, since I currently only have OS4 running under FS-UAE, but I guess I could test it out there and still play it on 'Linux'. :P

Quoting: prowlerI backed this because it promised a Linux and an Amiga version (I have an AmigaOne X1000 and run Linux as my main OS).I was trying to post something similar, apparently fell asleep, and then closed out the app on my phone.
In regards to the Amiga port, from what I remember, they reached out to the Amiga community and got developers who were used to working on the platform to develop it. This means it was a third party which developed the Amiga version.
Personally, I am not aware of how they plan on doing the Linux development.

I'm amazed at how many games are still getting funded even after so many of them fail to deliver. Though in some respects I guess they just fail to deliver to us (the Linux gaming community). Some of the games I've backed that did it right, Satellite Reign, Wasteland 2, Bard's Tale IV (coming along!)
Ones that have not; Tower 57 (still no Linux version), Underworld: Ascent (fuzzy Linux support at this point?), System Shock (we might all get screwed on this one...)
I can't even remember if I backed Star Citizen or Elite: Dangerous, for the second one they only said a Linux version is a possibility (though with Vulkan being open sourced for MacOS, maybe they'll upgrade?), and we still haven't seen any binaries for Star Citizen, but they still say Linux support will be there (I think?)
