Explore tons, IMO.
Giant space monsters are gonna eat the occasional exploration ship; it happens. I usually have like four, sometimes maybe five, exploration science ships going at a time. Worth it just for the research boosts when you find anomalies IMO. And then if one of them gets eaten, my exploration doesn't grind to a halt. Crawling behind them I have a few construction ships making mining/research stations as fast as my Influence will let me take systems.

Pirates showing up early at your core colony, though, that's just weirdly bad luck. I've never seen that. Nearby enough to be annoying and make me have to suddenly build up a little navy to take them out with when I wanted to be doing other stuff, yeah, occasionally. But there's always a cushion, they start a few systems away. Maybe you're not expanding your territory fast enough, so there's nowhere to put pirates except right close to home.
So I was expanding really fast, pretty much like you said, but didn't have much military. Had an colony world out further away from my main planet, discovered the pirates, and then tried getting my one or three little military ships over to the pirates, and that's when a space monster ate them, then the pirates captured my colony and sold them off for slaves.

Been quite a few updates / DLC since then though! Actually now that I think about it, last time I played was about January of 2020...

Quoting: GuestWhy would you buy an expensive keyboard that's not even split?
I want to know why there are not many split mechanical keyboards out there, especially of the ergonomic variety. I did end up finding one for work, but I mostly switch between various mechanical ones and that one.

I will say my favorite are the IBM Model M and Unicomp keyboard that I have, but I don't use them very often as they offend coworkers.

Heroic Games Launcher v2.5.0 is out with Downloads Manager, App Sideloading

Quoting: dibzHonestly I agree with the others, sideloading usually refers to "not this". Apparently, Wikipedia even has an entry backing that up...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sideloading [External Link]

All that said, I can see why it's not entirely off-base to use here either, but the confusion it would cause also isn't unreasonable. Using it here makes it sound like Heroic is an ecosystem itself, which it isn't; though if you use a flatpak it might be...
Thanks! I tend to think terms matter, and using one term for another just confuses matters. If Heroic added being able to load off of a 3ds with a cartridge in it over a USB cable, then I would consider it Sideloading.

Quoting: Liam DaweSideloading just means third-party. In this case, not from Heroic directly. It fits fine IMO.
Exactly, we could not think of a better name to describe it.
Ha, maybe call it third party? 😜 side-loading, used to have some effort be made to get things installed, like adb and a usb cable, at least that is how I always think of it as. If you are just throwing software in there, it isn't side-loading, as that requires something off to the side... to load it.

Quoting: slaapliedjeWtf is app sideloading on Linux? All it really means on Android/iOS is to install something outside of the Google/Apple store. It isn't like this hasn't always been a thing in computer land.

Does this feature just add shortcuts for stuff installed via apt/dnf (for example)?
It's explained right there in the article. Adding and installing things from outside Heroic.
Yeah, I think the term being used here is odd. I mean I guess if you think of Heroic as it's own OS, it'd make sense.

There have been a few times I've tried getting something to work in Heroic, but failed, but it worked great in Lutris. Which is a shame as the interface for Heroic is nicer. I'll have to give the new version a shot.

Quoting: TuxeeI have yet to understand the usefulness of lighting with opaque keycaps...

(Apart from that I wouldn't like the cursor keys arrangement and the lack of a proper ins/del/home/end/pgup/pgdown block.)
It's actually really great. When you hit either function key to activate another layer, just the keys active in that layer light up, with a different color for each layer.

(I have the first gen launch, and love it so much I registered just to answer that question.)
The complaint is not about the RGB lightning but that the keycaps are not shine through, so you can't see the legends in the dark. The key caps also appear to be a non-standard size, so you can't replace them with something off the shelf.
Yeah, it completely ruins the idea of having backlit keys. Same reason I had to go through several keyboard covers for my macbook because too many of them are not transparent enough for using the keyboard in the dark.

I have a lot of mechanical keyboards at this point. But my favorites are actually the Unicomp and IBM Model M... the clickiness on them are just amazing.

That being said, the most inovative keyboard I own is the Wooting keyboard. I don't use it all that much as it takes some getting used to, but it is wonderful.
