My current little wish-list for Steam Deck upgrades

Quoting: PompesdeskyI might be thinking specifically that one of the phones I bought no longer recommended the initial calibration of letting it drain to like 5% then charging it up to 80, etc. Granted none of this would even matter if the goddamn manufacturers would go back to replaceable batteries...Quoting: slaapliedjeBit of a late reply but lithium ion batteries still work that way. As said by someone else you can’t overcharge them of course, but leaving them full all the time does degrade them prematurely.Quoting: PompesdeskySeems no one said it yet, I'd like a battery charging limit so that I can play with the AC plugged in without the device charging the battery to 100% and leaving it there. When you're exclusively playing plugged in it's a waste of battery life (it would degrade less in the long run if we could set a charge limit at 50 or 70%).Pretty sure batteries no longer work that way.
Recommended storage capacity is usually between 40 and 60% of SoC, as stated here for example : https://www.uschemicalstorage.com/lithium-ion-battery-storage-requirements/ [External Link]
Someone released the FOSS RTS 0 A.D. on Steam without speaking to the developers

RedHat charges yearly licenses and the Linux Kernel doesn't flip out on them for it.

Quoting: dziadulewiczMaybe this will speed up the process on getting 0 A.D. officially by the developers to Steam. I mean it's astounding it's not there yet still officially. Why not? This brings up a curiosity. Could developers get a game 'into Steam' but Steam essentially just installs the flatpak version, or distribution packaged version? Seeing as how most distributions have 0 A.D. in them. Then again, I can also see reasons why developers wouldn't want to put them into Steam either. Granted another possibility (mind you this loses a lot of discoverability) is to have distributions put in a post-install script that adds their games to the Steam UI if it's detected. That'd be rather interesting...
People game on Steam on Linux and expect to find most of their needs just there now. In this day and age any tinkering getting a game to launch is a huge no. Click Play and game. Or not.
That said, SuperTux does not launch on Linux in Steam because its a AppImage package and problems related to that. It's quite ironic that SuperTux does not work OOTB on Linux :dizzy:

But since GoL doesn't seem to have the ability to just directly post images, I will have to put pictures up somewhere...

Quoting: KuJoThe Killswitch works fine with the JSAUX dock. The slot is deep enough and opens outward so the case will sit up above it, but it still holds it in place pretty well.Quoting: slaapliedje(...) and it absolutely will not work with the dbrand Killswitch case (the slot is too thin, and the USB-C cable won't fit into the port while the case is on.)Will the Killswitch case and USB-C port fit on the JSAUX docking?

Silent Hill 2 remake announced and coming to Steam

Not sure why, but for me Silent Hill was spooky, but not 'run away and flee' scary. I have come to this conclusion on what actually frightens me in a game. It's when you're mostly helpless. So in Silent Hill you can get a gun and fend off the mutant creatures. But a game like Penumbra... you have a crowbar. I got as far as a room where you have to sneak past the zombie dogs and if one of them see you, unless you can manage to clobber it over the head enough to take it out fast enough, it'll howl and attract more. That literally has given me more anxiety than any other game I've ever played. This is even compared to Skyrim VR with mods that made the dungeons pitch black...

Only two problems I see with the Valve Dock. It's not as wide as the Jsaux one (but it's still very sturdy, just need to center the deck on it a bit more than you'd need to on the jsaux one) and it absolutely will not work with the dbrand Killswitch case (the slot is too thin, and the USB-C cable won't fit into the port while the case is on.)

Sadly, as far as game preservation goes, the absolute worse about it are the newer homebrew games that become unobtanium because they are sold as a limited run physical release, and then no one dumps them and they just disappear.

Quoting: MexicanDandyThis is great for video game preservation but also is sad that the responsibility goes to the gamers and not the company owner of the original hardware and software. The attitude of most game publishers, especially the really large ones, is that you'll just keep re-buying the old games in collections, and you shouldn't ever preserve old games, as they want you to buy, and keep buying their latest ones that have DLC, and Season Pass, or multiplayer maps, or even in-app purchases... Basically a whole lot of game companies are in it for the $$$ instead of putting some love into a game. Which is why most indie games have become so huge lately.

I was reading last night about TaleSpire 'supporting Linux' by basically letting Proton do the work for them. Granted I also saw a whole lot of the customers complaining because they have two programmers and a bunch of asset makers, and that's it. Just thought it weird to claim they are supporting Linux and macOS, when macOS is getting a native M1 build, but Linux is 'we'll see if it runs with Proton, then pin it there.'
Native builds will always be preferred in my mind. Especially if it isn't a 3rd party porting house.

Still haven't spent the time to figure out how to dump a game and play it on an emulator... haven't fired up my switch in ages.

Quoting: PenglingThe real annoyance as that for some, it really seems like they did the same thing as Postal III did, basically shipping with physical media, that then gets replaced by digital, so you still end up having to download the whole thing. Not all did this, but some do.Quoting: emphyThen you may also be interested in the Retrode 2, a snes and genesis cartridge dumper with plugins for gbx, sms, and n64. It also allows one to connect the classic controllers of the respective consoles.I dropped in here to post exactly that. I got mine way back when they first became available - neat little piece of kit!
It's available irregularly at several online retro-game shops.
Quoting: PhiladelphusDoesn't the Switch used microSD cards? (I don't have one.) Just need an emulator on the Deck that can detect when one's been plugged in if that's the case… :happy:For digital releases yes (and the card specifically has to be formatted on the individual Switch console it will be used with), but generally no, it uses its own cartridge format.
I no longer have a Switch, but have a couple of games still hanging around because local stores won't accept imports due to them not carrying the nationally-accepted age-ratings, so here's a picture;
