Life is Strange released for Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts and a port report included

Any linux port with a translation layer will eat a lot of CPU resources... And that is why the performance of this kind of ports is much lower than the windows version of the same game running on the same hardware..
The money that a person doesn't spend in a Windows license, he or she must spend it in a more powerfull/expensive hardware for to have the same performance on Linux that the same game has on Windows.
I just want to know why linux porters don't use native OpenGL engines when they do the porting process...

Quoting: dmantioneI agree with that... For me, that is a native engine.Quoting: Comandante oardoI was asking how many true native OpenGL engines are there, besides IDtech?Depends on how you define "native". If the definition is "does not support DirectX", then are only a few. But almost all major engines have an OpenGL renderer and don't need translation layers. Unity, Unreal4, Serious Engine, Source2 engine, you name it... all can do OpenGL. For some of these engines OpenGL is less efficiënt, because the OpenGL renderer needs to do an unncessary amount of state changes. But does that mean that they are not native? A matter of taste, but as far as I am concerned any engine that calls the OpenGL engine without translation layer can be considered native.

According to the info, the publisher of the Linux version is VP itself, so I don't think We (the owners of the windows version of this game on Steam and/or GOG) gonna have a free Linux version.
Overlord for Linux release date announced, arriving tomorrow the 21st of July

Or maybe the Steam info is wrong.

Quoting: BeamboomSome porters DO have publishing rights. If you look at Tomb Raider 2013 info, You will see that the publishing rights for Linux and OSX belongs to Feral, and not square enix... The same goes for Alien Isolation ( and others)Quoting: X6205Uhm... so unknown game i have never heard off gets a linux release. But users bitching abou Witcher 1 for linux are ignored. The porters do not own the rights to the games and can't do this by their own whim. Obviously it's up to the publisher of the respective franchises what will be ported to where.
[...]And what about Aspyr or Feral porting their best Mac titles to linux?
Or maybe the Steam info is wrong.

I'm from Argentina and I just purchased an Steam controller on Mercado Libre, for about 160 U$D...
Yeah, in Argentina, all the hardware is at least twice expensive than the rest of the planet.

Quoting: AryvandaarSeems a bit odd that Valve tries to market their steam machine but don't let people in certain countries order the steam controller. Then, You will have to use alternative retailers, like I did...
