Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire, a a tactical turn-based RPG is coming to Linux in August
14 Jul 2016 at 2:21 pm UTC

Quoting: rustybroomhandleIt's right there at 1:35 in the video.
I never watch the videos. Are you saying you can see the game running on Linux in it?

Quoting: rustybroomhandleAlso on the Steam page.
Linux has been on the Steam page for several games and then, come release day, it turns out no-one ever actually tested the Linux build. So this does nothing to ease my feelings of trepidation.

Backed this on Kickstarter, been looking forward to it for a while. They've been pretty good about updates but, like many crowdfunded projects, haven't mentioned Linux in any of them that I can recall so I feel some trepidation.

Dear Valve and Steam Machines OEMs, you have it all wrong

If you have Amazon Prime the i3 Alienware Steam Machine is currently 44% off (so £319.99 in the UK). The i7 is scheduled to join it in the sale in a few hours.

Quoting: GoboEvery piece of entertainment software should list its dependencies and requirements in a standardized matter, so a simple check app could tell you if your home equipment is capable to run anything you'd like to throw at it.
The problem is that testing entertainment software on every variety and combination of hardware released even in just last three years is prohibitively expensive for providers of entertainment software (or any software, for that matter). The minimum specs you see on most games are not really the minimum specs, they're just the least powerful machine that was tested on. This is why developers like consoles, only one thing to test.

What are you playing this weekend?

Spent most of the weekend completing Book Five of Dreamfall: Chapters twice. Played a bit of Shroud of the Avatar when I needed a break.

Quoting: Raven67854So it makes sense that they would need some middle-layer to give them help. As moving to a newer build of Unreal is a hell of a task.
I'm going to repeat what I said before: This tool allows them to do Windows builds on Linux, it is not something for inclusion into the Linux builds of a game.

Quoting: dontnodd3d4linux ... is being successfully used at Dontnod Entertainment to package Windows versions of Unreal Engine 4 games.

Is this the guy that used to be a Debian contributor/maintainer?

Quoting: Raven67854Seems odd to go through all of this work rather than use Unreal Engine 4's native Linux version. But hey! Could be cool for other projects like MonoGame.
My reading of the GitHub page is that this is so that they can do their Windows builds on Linux.

Steam summer sale looks set for June 23rd

I decided I'd finish XCOM before I bought XCOM 2, then I just never seem to get around to playing it. If XCOM 2 is in the sale I'll get it.

Albion Online MMO major update to come soon, new developer video released
13 May 2016 at 5:09 pm UTC

Quoting: coesetaLast time I checked the game looked quiet PVP heavy.
Seems that way, the number 1 item on the "What is Albion Online" page is about PVP.

Only the most skilful fighters will leave the field victorious!
Not much point me playing it then :(

Even the second feature mentioned, 'Farming', they consider only worth doing "to fuel your guild’s war efforts."
