I haven't used it much in ages because everything I want to play works on Linux. The only reason I'm still subscribed is because I'm on a grandfathered £5pcm tier.

If you already own Atelier Ryza games on Steam will there be an upgrade path? Or are we expected to buy the games again?

I worked at Amazon in the second era that Ethan describes (after the Twitch acquisition) and was part of the team building the Steam competitor internally. I can attest to the fact that most of the team building Amazon's store were not avid PC gamers themselves; the leadership chain from my team up to Ethan's level certainly were not. For those of us who were (my daily ritual at the time was to go home after work and immediately log on to play CS:GO or Payday 2 until 2AM), working on the project was a frustrating experience because we were told to build something that we could never see ourselves using.
I'm happy to see this post acknowledging Amazon's failure to break into the PC gaming market because it shows a level of introspection and reflection that I appreciate about Amazon company culture.

Having read the LinkedIn post and a few of the top comments it's pretty clear that this guy fully accepts what people here are saying: they had no real understanding of the gaming market and is willing to eat some humble pie on that front. It's actually not a bad read :)
I particularly liked this comment for someone that used to work under him and actually was a gamer:

Valve released the Best of Steam - 2024 showing off the highest earners and most played games

According to my year in review my most played game was Civilisation VI, however real time doesn't count when playing Civ and not all of that was 'active playing' (a lot of it was waiting for other people to finish their turns). Second was Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, another game where 'active playing' was only a percentage of the total. So that leaves Palworld as the one I actually played the most.

With the release date on a Saturday I may buy it at launch. Want to avoid the situation with Civ VI where the day it launched on Linux was (IIRC) a Thursday and my quick 'just check it works before I go to bed' led to me one more turning it until 6:30am and then having to head into work on just over an hour's sleep

Quoting: KimyrielleI never really understood why people shell out massive amounts of money for a laptop that's heavy enough not really to be a mobile device anymore, when they could get a desktop PC with similar specs for half the price.Because the "desks" I want to game at are in multiple cities and it's a lot better than lugging a desktop PC and monitor around (some of the desks are kitchen tables, others are beds).
