The latest 'Steam Client Beta Update' fixes wired Steam Controller support on Linux
21 Oct 2016 at 11:51 am UTC

This update totally torched my Steam directory - I think it may have crashed while updating so this issue [External Link]. Of course this only happened after I'd finished downloading Mad Max.

The cable issue was confusing when I was trying to set up my Steam Link the other week. The instructions on the Link said I had to connect the controller to a computer by USB to update the firmware, which didn't work.

The link at the bottom appears to be garbled too.

Steam VR will use Vulkan on Linux, demo shown off on Linux, new Vive controller being made

Quoting: sarmadValve was obviously waiting on Vulkan for pushing the entire SteamOS ecosystem, not just the VR part, which is understandable.
Coupled with the upcoming new chipsets from AMD I'm thinking we'll soon start seeing new Steam Machines bundled with Vives as a living room VR solution.

Shadow Warrior 2 may not come to Linux after all, it's getting a bit confusing

Quoting: Cybolicso I hope there are at least some repercussions within companies when developers/artists/tech support people say these kind of things to press.
Will there be repercussions for the journalists who ask questions these people are unlikely to know the answer to? (I know that, in this case, the question came from the audience - the point is more general)

In the world of AAA they don't let these kind of people talk to press, this is one of the reasons why. In a team of over a hundred people almost none of them will know everything that's going on.

Civilization VI for Linux is no longer certain, only a possibility

Quoting: soulsourceYep, as a game developer I can confirm that middleware can be a showstopper when it comes to portability. We use a special FX software which only supports Windows and (supposedly, but not really) Mac for our current Unity-project.
We're all well aware of that sort of issue. The question we have, since even us users are well aware of it, is why developers keep choosing to use middleware that isn't cross platform when they've promised to release cross platform?

Event[0] a sci-fi narrative exploration game is coming to Linux, befriend a spaceship computer to get home to Earth

There were a couple of PCs running this at EGX Rezzed this year, I wanted to play it but there was always a queue (not just someone playing it, but a queue). I take this as a good sign.

Quoting: tuubian unauthorized fan remake/translation of ELIZA for the C64 as a kid
I'm pretty sure that ELIZA was in the public domain as it was developed in an academic setting. A new implementation only took a few hundred lines of PROLOG, most of that data, it was one of the early assignments when I did my AI classes at University. In any case you were probably playing a version based on the BASIC implementation published in Creative Computing in 1977 [External Link].

If anyone is interested in experiencing computing history but doesn't want to install Emacs there's a JavaScript version [External Link].

Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire, a visually appealing and beautifully presented tactical turn-based RPG
1 Sep 2016 at 2:13 am UTC

Backed this on Kickstarter, back when I did that sort of thing. So far very happy with the way it's turned out both in story and mechanics. I played for just under two hours tonight, though part of that was doing the first big battle three times while I figured out what I was doing.

A look at Planet Nomads now it's in closed alpha and available on Linux

Quoting: CreakI was expecting it but I wanted to try anyway, the game doesn't work with an old Radeon HD 6870 with the open source drivers.
Did you start with the -force-opengl option as described in the article? A lot of Unity 5.x based games have not worked without that on my AMD laptop.

Project Cars official twitter confirms to me there are no plans for it on Linux now

Quoting: TuxeeSince there is only a Windows version it will be counted as Windows sale, regardless of being installed or played.
That's not what the developer of the Stanley Parable said [External Link]. Buy it on Linux, don't play it for a week, Steam counts it as a Linux sale. Whether the publisher cares about Steam's stats is another matter.

Three retro Disney games are now on GOG with Linux support
