The only thing we can say for sure is that Aspyr wasn't certain if Civ VI would be ported to Linux, and now they're certain that it will be ported to Linux. Anything beyond that is idle guesswork.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleI can speculate on one thing though... when they said they were doing a "feasibility study", I first wondered if this meant technical or market feasibility, but now I think it's clear it's a technical one.I don't think that's clear at all. "Feasibility study" is such a vague term that could mean anything.

I have way too many big, time consuming strategy games at the moment, between Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, Hearts of Iron IV, Stellaris, Civilization V, Total Warhammer, Empire: Total War... do I really need to add another to the pile?

The real question is, is Civ VI worth buying in its current state? Or is it like the last two iterations that really weren't worth playing until after at least the first expansion?

Quoting: LeviI think I've been hit by that one before since Ubuntu MATE will occasionally hang during shutdown, and I have to physically power-off the computer. Never knew what was causing, but this could be the culprit.- Fixed Steam not obeying SIGTERM, Steam will now gracefully exit when logging out of a sessionTHANKFULLY, I've not been hit by this one often but it always puzzled me before finding this steam bug a while back.
(For those who don't know, this caused elementary os and a few others to never shutdown proper. The system just stayed on forever, stuck on the shutdown screen)

Quoting: Luke_NukemATi's Windows divers were never that great, either.Quoting: Mountain ManAMD has really done a disservice to the Linux community with their poor support. If it wasn't for Nvidia, Linux gaming wouldn't be where it is today. That's true. But you can certainly lay part of that blame at the feet of ATI before they were bought by AMD. I used ATI once over a decade ago and Linux support was atrocious - sure it worked, but very poorly. Seems this has remained true right up to the last year or two (depending).

Quoting: throghThe thing is: Most computers (including desktop and mobile) have only UEFI within as standard implemented. I won't buy a machine which has no alternative for a free BIOS like Libreboot or Coreboot! And using NVidia as practible standard: AMD is more than good with the MESA-drivers, not really open but it's a way forward while NVidia goes more closed with their signed firmware. Complete proprietary hardware? No way, thanks! :)It would be great if Nvidia was more open, but that's just not the way major hardware and software companies do things. The sad truth is that if you want things completely free (as in speech, not beer) then your options are going to be severely curtailed.

Quoting: pete910Valve certainly deserves the lion's share of the credit, but AMD/ATi drivers have always been crap. Do you think Valve would have even bothered with Linux if games couldn't run with acceptable performance? That's why I say that if it wasn't for Nvidia, Linux gaming wouldn't be where it is today. But maybe that's too strong. Perhaps I should say that it probably wouldn't be where it is today.Quoting: Mountain ManAMD has really done a disservice to the Linux community with their poor support. Nv drivers have been reasonable on linux since what, the 90's. !
Why has it taken this long? And to point out, the games that were on linux prior to steam worked fine on AMD too. as both camps was generally beating the windows version on several games.
So the real force that catapulted linux gaming???? Valve/Steam end of.
