Quoting: UncleivanSteamOS was released barely 6 months ago. And the game scene in Linux in general have never been better. So things are good. That puts things into perspective. How many six-month old platforms can boast 2000+ games?

There are currently more games available for Linux than I have the money to buy or the time to play, and this includes a number of AAA releases. Compared to even 2-years ago, that's a HUGE step forward for Linux gaming! I think the future is looking pretty bright for our penguin-powered OS.

Quoting: wvstolzingCiv 3 had more 'realistic' graphics compared to Civ 4, which went for a more cartoony style.Civ IV was stylized, not "cartoony", and it still looked like a serious "adult" game. Civ VI has a Playskool aesthetic.

Performance is significantly improved! I found it playable before, but it's actually smooth now. Much more enjoyable.
Come on, Feral, why couldn't you guys release it like this in the first place?

I don't care for the new visual style, either. There's a natural art evolution from Civ 1 to Civ 5. Then we get Civ 6 which is a significant step backwards in my opinion. My theory is that Firaxis has their eye on the console/mobile market and is creating a look that will appeal to casual gamers. My concern is that the gameplay will follow suit.

Just showed the video to my 11-year old. Told him these were THE games when I was a kid.
These will play great with the Steam Controller.

My problem with this game isn't the performance but the gameplay. I've only played for a few hours, but it seems like the developers really wanted to make a movie instead of a video game. Too many cutscenes, too many obnoxious quick-time events, and the exploration sections are so on-the-rails that there's little room for creative solutions or emergent gameplay. I mean, it's a decently entertaining reinvention of the Lara Croft character, but I think the game itself is seriously overrated.

Quoting: bakgwailoValve did mostly wrappers and gets near equal performance (or better in the early days). Even the Eon wrapper can get near Windows performance in some titles now. Hell, Wine can, too. All of Feral's ports seem to suffer from 50% performance loss including Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider, this, etc - it seems like they need to spend more time optimizing their process/wrapper that they use. Of course, the really older games do work great, and I would say Empire works better on Linux that I ever got it to work on Windows :)But then you have XCOM 2 which actually runs slightly better in Linux than it does in Windows, but the difference there is that Firaxis brought Feral into the development process very early on so they were able to develop the Linux version right alongside the Windows version which highlights the advantages of developing for cross platform from the start.

Quoting: leillo1975I don't judge a game by his fps, I only see if the game is playable with a certain quality. If the game don't have 100fps, but it runs at 50-60 is perfect to me. Really I don't feel the difference (and normally I use V-sync). If I don't have to switch to Windows to play (like GTAV), I'm happy. Now, all I have to do is save some money (or wait for a discount) ....That is, of course, the sensible position, but when fans of Linux are trying to plead their case, it doesn't help that Windows users can smugly point to benchmarks like this. Of course you and I know there is no reason why Linux can't perform at least equal to Windows and that games designed for DirectX simply translate poorly to OpenGL, but try convincing someone who is just looking for the most bang for his buck and doesn't care about the privacy, security, and other concerns that plague Windows.

Really disappointed to see the huge disparity between Linux and Windows. I mean, it still hits the magic 60FPS which is where most monitors top out anyway, but as others have noted, this isn't going to convince anybody but dedicated Linux fans to choose Linux over Windows.
Really hoping Vulkan can bring some parity to the situation.
