Quoting: evergreenit's time for valve to push developement department and make some changes in marketing decisions.
Today, after years, I bought a winz game: the division!!!! so I'm forced to install the virusOS... but only for my 40 gameplay hours
Weak. Did it come with free mountain dew and doritos?

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II and expansions look like they are coming to Linux & SteamOS

EDIT: I mistook the title to mean Dawn of War the original. I retract my statement. 40K original is far superior.

Overlord, Overlord: Raising Hell and Overlord II look set for Linux ports soon

Quoting: leillo1975I'm happy to read this, but I'm waiting for Saint Row II and III (VP ports)? There are no news about this games?
I thought they would have been released by now. We have IV and GooH but II and III are honestly the best in the series. Last I heard "ports are currently in beta, should be out before too long" but that statement was a while ago and probably in reference to the SR ports already released.

Linux usage on Steam is better than people think
5 Mar 2016 at 6:50 pm UTC

That would just cause people to startup Steam for Linux in a VM once in order to get the XP and then never touch Linux again. Remember what happened with the Tux penguin item for Team Fortress Ubuntu players?

Nvidia release another new Vulkan beta driver with Linux support
5 Mar 2016 at 1:17 am UTC

Quoting: nocriVulkan offers implementation of multiGPU setups -- it is up to the developer to use it in the engine. With Vulkan it is possible that if you have NVIDIA and Intel GPU's one can be use to render the scene and the other for openCL computations (so physic etc.). However, both GPU's doing the rendering is not so viable atm as the framebuffer needs to be copied for one card to the other (as far as i understand the specification, the frame buffer has to be copied via CPU so GPU framebuffer -> GPU -> PCIexpress -> Interruption -> CPU cache -> CPU -> PCI express -> GPU -> GPU framebuffer [kind of long way :)]). With multimonitor-multiGPU that would work perfectly (with lot of work from developers :) ). The current implementation AFAIK is not able to take advantage of SLI or Xfire buses (probably there will be some extensions from vendors).
I believe HSA addresses this limitation.

They did an awesome job on their commercial too. If anything, I at least want the soundtrack.

Microsoft's latest tactics show Gabe Newell of Valve was right to worry

Quoting: MalOh God. You gotta read this [External Link].

My already low respect for consoletards got even lower. :O

Anyway, a Pearl among this moronic nonsense galore:

I've said it over and over, we're focused on the best place to play for gamers, not about creating walls.
Phil Spencer
Console enthusiasts are intensely focused on who does and does not have access to games. And not by technical reasons. This is because their choice platform is literally given value by practice of non-technical exclusion. [External Link] Console gamers are conditioned to accept high walls between their respective gardens.

This is why I find it worrying that so many Linux guys seem keen on additionally owning consoles "for the games". Put your money where your mouth is; do you want freedom or not?

A Linux & Mac version of Stardew Valley depends on sales from Windows to happen
2 Mar 2016 at 11:16 pm UTC

What stupid way to gauge interest. I recall the Hatred devs doing the same thing. Or are they simply saying "If this project does not return X amount of revenue, we reason that revenue from a smaller platform won't cover costs"?

Build for Linux from day one. Avoid platform dependent middleware.

Steam in these cases is the lesser of two evils
I don't see Steam as evil at all? It's a digital distribution platform - so what? It's even a platform for free software. And like it's said in the article: No exclusivity periods, it's free for the users, it's cross platform, it's proven to be a reliable service, they support Linux.
Where's the evilness?
It's proprietary software with some DRM, that's probably the evil to which he's referring. That's perfectly relevant for us Linux users.
Agree, this is why I primarily look for games on GOG and if it's not there only then do I go to Steam. Valve can start to fix this problem by first identifying the few DRM-free titles that are on Steam as such. And also by open sourcing most or all of the Steam client.

How do you feel about all this?
I don't understand why ANYONE would want to move from something less restrictive like Steam or GOG, to something that is absurdly locked down like this.
It's worth noting that Microsoft will encourage people to use the store with deals and free "store points" just like they have done in the past. Remember when they were paying out MS points to users who signed in to and conducted searches on Bing?

There will inevitably be folks with money sitting on their MS accounts who decide "I might as well spend it anyways" < and so begins the cycle of ignorant masses getting locked into a walled ecosystem.
