Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough
22 Sep 2015 at 2:38 pm UTC

Quoting: YoshiTheFox347Now we need some Lego games ????.
We already have one: http://store.steampowered.com/app/324790/ [External Link]

Quoting: GuestSteam also isn't the only way to get games. GOG is there, humble bundles, and also a whole group of other places (even if they're mostly indie). Valve hold far too much sway in the minds of the gaming masses, and while they do a good job, I don't think it's healthy for gaming.
I think it's a matter of Valve being the first to get their foot in the door. Everyone flocks to what is already established. It is telling to see GOG improving their Linux launchers and (hopefully eventually) Galaxy for Linux. Maybe the competition could pressure Valve into serving DRM-free.. or at least flag the games that already are as such.

Age Of Wonders III Now Has Mods, Linux Support Included, But No Mod Tools For Us
17 Sep 2015 at 8:32 pm UTC

Quoting: omer666In fact on the official link they state it will be out on GOG in the next 24h, so I don't think modding is an obstacle in itself. The problem lies somewhere else, and as I do think this situation is far from perfect, it is also the case for many other great games, and I don't even talk about games that have a Linux version that isn't available anywhere like the UT games...
I find this a handy link [External Link] to track GOG games which have Linux versions elsewhere.

GOL Asks: What Game Are You Looking Forward To Playing?

Dungeon Defenders 2 and Killing Floor 2 for me. Hopefully the sequels aren't plagued by the same issues some had experienced.

The Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 PRO Rev.2 Is Cheap & Fantastic AMD CPU Cooler
16 Sep 2015 at 2:21 pm UTC

Quoting: damarrinThe only problem with this I see is that the CPU you got is rated by AMD at 125W, whereas the cooler is rated aby Arctic Cooling at 85W. I'd be careful there.
A 100W rated model at the very least.

Now they just need an intuitive way to install the proprietary driver.

GOL Survey Results: August
13 Sep 2015 at 11:28 pm UTC

Here’s the first results with the “Integrated AMD” option added, so it seems we will get more accurate results from now on.
I am one of the probably 12 or so people in that new category. Hopefully respondents understand the distinction of integrated vs dedicated.

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Quoting: ProfessorKaos64Kinda tired of the hw survey being played. Everyone knows it's BS. I've gotten it once since the client was released on Linux.
If it's so inaccurate as everybody claims, then there is also the possibility that Steam HW reports higher number of Linux users than there really are. The street goes both ways.

And if Linux ever grows to a significant percentage on Steam HW survey I don't ever want to hear you people cite the number or praise it for its accuracy.

Saints Row: The Third Also Looks Like It's Coming To Linux

The news of Saints Row 2 had me skeptically excited but now it's sounding more believable.

DiRT Showdown Released For Linux Thanks To Virtual Programming, Some Thoughts

Quoting: GuestTo all those naysayers, guess I'll just have to enjoy the game on my Kaveri while you're busy ranting on. Runs pretty damn flawless here. Needs GL4.1 according to a dialog window, but on Steam it lists a GL4.2 requirement - I suspect it's truly the latter. Either way, this is a solid job by VP.
I agree. AMD product must be pretty hit or miss because there are two equally loud groups who claim that AMD is either fine for Linux gaming or sub par and should be avoided. Even the monthly surveys show a near 50/50 split between those who use the open source driver and those who use the proprietary. As far as I'm concerned, AMD's integrated GCN 1.1 based APUs all run fine under the proprietary driver. I even have playlists which showcase the gaming viability of these little guys. Though it's not native, I'm glad to have a third major porting house to tackle game ports.
