Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough

Unfortunately Liam is exactly right.
I actually love indies, even a lot of games other people might consider bad, since I see a lot of comments here and on gaming subreddits about the vast majority of games on Steam for any OS being "shovelware" or some such. Or perhaps I'm just more careful about what "indie" games I buy and am overall more likely to be satisfied with what I purchase. Probably both.
Anyway, what I was getting at is that even if I like hundreds of indie titles, those aren't the things that drive the growth of Linux as a gaming platform. Why would my Windows krill of a friend Trevor for instance opt to buy a Steam machine given the current state of Linux gaming? It's got no COD, no Assassin's Creed, no MGS, no GTA, none of the Blizzard titles, no uPlay at all, no Galaxy client, it's missing the first Borderlands, it doesn't have a single exclusive (and exclusives are frequently what sell consoles).
You all know I could go on and on. What we have is great and satisfies me as a Linux user but it has no drawing power for the people who aren't already on board with Linux. And for us to continue to get Linux games we need more market share. Ideally we'd have about the same market share as Mac OSX. And for such a market share we need titles that the average Joe gamer would want to play; they need a reason to buy a console-like PC for their living rooms.

It would take too much time to list all the backlogged games I'm looking forward to :D, but I'm especially excited for the adventure titles I've recently got my hands on-- Fran Bow and Dropsy. Gonna ignore homework and good sense and play SOMA the day it releases, too.
The Stanley Parable Released For Linux, You Will Play It, You Won’t Play it

I had already played this a little in WINE, and that was before I knew to wait 2-3 weeks before playing it so it would count as a Linux sale. So, even though GranPC won't see my sale, I'm still grateful for getting to play natively now!

Developers Of Strategy Game Halfway Show Linux Sales & Support Requests

Considering Mac and Linux taken together had 80% of the support requests but only 6% of the sales, it does make me wonder how much they tested the game on a platform other than Windows. Still, like always, I'm grateful that devs still develop for us at all even though it clearly isn't worth the effort at the moment.

I'm so stoked for this game. Evoland was a jewel that I happily blazed through in one or two sittings. Its successor looks to expand on everything that was cool and funny about the original.
Virtual Programming Have Been Busy, Looks Like They Are Doing The Arma 3 Port

I don't like these eOn ports at all. Not because I'm ungrateful to see these games ported, but because they offer inferior performance. If a Windows user trying out Linux tried one of these games and were subjected to all of the stuttering, freezing and crashes one gets on these games, they'd blame Linux. They've already been convinced for one reason or another that there is something wrong with Linux and that it will never be "quite there," especially for gaming. I've seen it on all of their sites any time Linux gets brought up on their various Windoze "master race" sites. They'd see these games with their inherently inferior experience and it would be a repeat of the sort of thing we've seen for bad Windows ports like the recent Arkham game. Windows gamers are much more sensitive to performance hits of any kind than Linux users, because we don't feel entitled to our releases. eOn ports just offer more ammo for FUD spreading for new users trying these games on Steam machines or whatever. I feel like they don't do us any favors in the long run.

Bought it from Feral. Going in basically totally blind-- never actually watched any videos, much less played it, but I know it will be awesome. That download though! Will have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest to try it out
