Steam hits a new all-time high for users online, Linux share rises

This is a hardware survey, it means almost nothing for OS usage.

Valve has perfect realtime data of the operating system of every Steam user in the world. Just like a browser. They don't need a stupid inconsistent survey to achieve that. I still don't understand why they pretend they have any accuracy with this current sampling method.

PikuNiku is on for a stupidly low price. Definitely worth it for anyone who likes creative platformers. Difficulty level not too high and it is quite funny. Probably even good for a younger audience, although some parts might need adult assistance.

Need a distraction-free art application on Linux? Try out MyPaint

Quoting: NanobangI love MyPaint! As a consumate doodler and sometimes illustrator/cartoonist over the better part of 50 years, I can tell you that MyPaint is the closest thing I've found to working on paper, to grabbing a pencil or pen and a piece of paper. I can pretty much just open it and and begin. It really is a different beast altogether.
I have a friend who uses MyPaint quite a bit. She says similar things.

Great to see it getting a big update.

I played Evergarden recently and enjoyed it. It has a bit of a Hexcells-like puzzle quality. Smaller playing area, but deeper strategy.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPYeah... some games make you feel like you were ripped off, paid too much money.

This game will make you feel like you ripped off the developer.
I honestly don't understand why they sell it so low, but it's their choice.
Haha. I haven't had much time to play since I picked it up in the Xmas sale, but you are right. Remarkable for the price.

My top 5 Linux games released in 2019, those that truly won me over

Liam, I have a question (not a criticism):

Since you "have" to play so many games for review, do you find you are attracted to more Rogue-like games since they have bite-sized gameplay? I have noticed a drift in your favourites over the last while...

There are no deep, story-oriented single-player games on your list!

GOG have new games up on GOG Connect, big sale still going

Quoting: scaineI had no idea this game used procgen! Does it procgen the maps?? If so, there must be many elements of "fixed" map layout, since all the puzzle elements feel hand-crafted. The game is much easier than Hollow Knight, but still challenging. Actually, "easier" might not be the right term. It's more what I outline above - progress is more obvious, there's a levelling mechanism that makes earlier areas easier to visit and it's much clearer when am area is blocked off because you haven't unlocked an ability.
From the first line of the Chasm game description on Steam:
"Explore the depths below a remote mountain town in this procedurally-generated Adventure Platformer. "

Thanks for your review. I have been burnt on a number of games lately that people were enthusiastic about, so I am taking a wait-and-see approach to a lot of them...

I don't dare re-install it.

Quoting: no_information_hereMy one question is: Do any of these FOSS clients support incremental updates? Downloading 2GB+ every time a dev patches their game is another reason I don't use GOG as much.
lgogdownloader and wyvern do, when using Galaxy protocol (so for Windows builds). For Linux builds GOG doesn't support Galaxy protocol on the backend, so they rely on the hack of using zip offsets over HTTP, so it kind of works, but it's a hack.
Interesting. Thanks for explaining the details.

Let's hope GOG fixes the back-end and then FOSS clients can fill the gap.
