The brutal FPS 'Apocryph' is planned for Linux, looks quite brilliant

yes, it's Unity so it shouldn't be a big issue to build it for Linux

We'll definitely try.

Great article, scaine!

We seem to have similar taste in TD games :-) I also give a big vote to Kingdom Rush, Defender's Quest and Defence Grid 2. Particularly, I really enjoyed OTTTD. I didn't have much expectation going in, but had a blast and ended up putting in about 60 hours. Very "over the top", but solid gameplay.

Also, Dungeon Warfare has the most basic graphics, but the gameplay is first class. It took me 77 hours to get all the achievements...

What are you playing this weekend?

Quoting: coryrj19951Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. I've only ever played the beginning because my old Xbox never liked to read discs. It seems a little buggy right now, but nothing too game breaking yet.
I just picked this up. Great nostalgia - I played the whole thing back on the xbox. However, you are right about buggy. It has just crashed to desktop twice in the same spot (first gate eye), losing all my progress.

It looks pretty good for an old xbox game, but I might wait for the first patch before playing again.

Edit: 20 hours later, they pushed out an update so I tried again. Crashed in same spot. Will check the steam forums...

There's a big Aspyr Media sale on Steam right now, grab some great Linux games

All the Borderlands games are great. TPS is not quite as strong as the other two, but still well worth the price. I really wish there were other good co-op FPS Linux games like them. Big goofy fun.

I have played all three solo and with a co-op partner. Great both ways.

Well, for that low price, I couldn't resist. I have only played a bit so far but it is a respectable effort. Good little timewaster so far. We will see if it has much depth, though.

Interesting. Looks like it is on Steam as well:

I like his "win the game" series. Not sure what to think about this. Early reviews seem positive.

Quoting: Anjune-- but after 70+* hours in the game I feel stuck.
Quoting: scaineAw, nah. I've given the wrong impression I think - I've mostly enjoyed my near-30 hours in the game. I don't regret buying it, at all.
You both have my respect -- 70 and 30 hours are plenty to give a game a good chance. Sometimes things just don't click, and that is a personal thing. I guess the patient exploration and skill building for bosses appealed to me more. The only remaining thing I wanted to complete in the original game is the colosseum's third trial, but it was just a bit too brutal. I was fine as it was completely optional.

I do agree that S&S is a brilliant game. The soulsvania niche of games is very cool, I think. A lot of careful thought went into both games. Not really a "souls"-inspired game, but Axiom Verge is another one that had an impressively crafted world.

Samurai Riot, a 2D co-op beat 'em up has released for Linux

Um, "kill innocents or lose the war" turns me off pretty quickly. So many games try to shoehorn moral choices into a game and make both options distasteful. I hope it is better than it sounds...
