Vangers the open source classic from 1998 continues to be upgraded

I loved vangers as a kid. And then as an adult. And probably still although I haven't played in forever.
The story is insane, the gameplay is also insane.
I'm so glad to see it still getting reported on. Except, you know, now I have to install it again.

no shade, game looks amazing, and i love terminal games.
but my favorite part of this post is the changelog stating that they've fixed various spelling and grammar errors, and then the whole changelog being full of spelling and grammar errors.

I dunno if any of you have ever gamed on a laptop with a touchpad, but if you HAVE, you'll know how frustrating it is to be mid game, and hit the touchpad by mistake with your palm, and then die horribly cos your character is spinning or something.
Is this gonna be that, only intentional? Cos that would be horrific.

Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) rolls out to everyone and it works on Linux

Well, my experience echoes yours in regards to firefox, but in fairness it DOES say it's not a supported browser, so I can't really complain.
On the other hand, in chromium I can use my controller to get into a game, but as soon as the game opens all input is ignored. It looks like it's running nicely, the sound is smooth, but i can't actually play anything.

That said, I like the idea of this. Stadia is nice, but I find it lacking in games. You can buy almost anything, but then when google opts to shut it down, all those games will be gone forever. I hold out hope they WON'T do that, but I don't trust them enough to invest money into risking it. Nvidia is better in that regard, since you can own your games and just play them on their service but in my experience the actual gameplay is somewhat laggy, and my connection to their servers tends to be miserable. Microsoft though has a lot of pretty cool games available on the service, and I already pay for it for my Xbox, so it'd be great if it would work so I could just play right here on my computer.

**Update.
So, I figured I'd try it with the stadia controller, not really expecting anything. Turns out it works fine with that one. No idea why, since I would have assumed xbox would work better with xbox. It played okay, a little bit of input lag, but not too terrible. I wouldn't recommend trying to play dead cells on it though. I'm bad enough already.

Terraria for Stadia cancelled, due to Google locking the developer out

This isn't the first time Google has done this weird lock entire accounts thing.
A few years ago they did it to a large number of markiplier fans, because he asked them to spam happy or sad faces in his chat to vote for something or other. When they did as asked, they were banned. Not just from youtube, or from youtube chat, but from the entire google ecosystem. With the same results. Literally just locked out and that was the end of it.
I know a good chunk eventually got reinstated, after Mark made a big deal about it. I don't know if they ever got all of them back. I'm pretty sure google never said a word about it. Just said they were looking into the situation, eventually reinstated some of the accounts, and then just carried on googling.
Putting all your eggs in one basket is a horrible idea. Especially if that basket is run by a whole bunch of people who REALLY don't care about your eggs, so long as MOST eggs are okay.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

I've been playing Rise to Ruins a bit lately. I recently played a really long game of Factorio that I enjoyed immensely, but i got to the rocket launching and the only thing left to do was to optimize.. I realize optimization is sort of the point of the game, but I'm less an engineer and more a dude with a hammer... So.
Rise to Ruins is great though. I played for the first time, and died 'cos I forgot to feed anyone. Then I played my second game, and it so far seems to be doing alright except you know, the corruption is coming in fast now and I might be in trouble.
Otherwise, it's just Dead Cells over and over. I suck horribly, I die on like the second zone, whichever it may be... But it's just so much fun.

My love for the terminal, and thereby ascii art, knows no limits. So. Color me excited.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think of it?

Secret world legends I've been playing this since it was The Secret World. Back when I was running dual boot with windows. It was fantastic back then, came out right as City Of Heroes died (Sad face emoji) I played the HECK out of it, but could never quite get past Egypt. The rerelease as Secret World Legends broke Linux support totally, so I couldn't play at all until proton fixed it for me. Took some poking, but now it works so well you wouldn't know it wasn't native most of the time.
I've swept through Egypt, finished Transylvania and am already powering through Tokyo. Furthest I've ever gone in an MMO, and it's not showing any signs of slowing down yet.

Factorio Because one should always have SOMETHING native, and more importantly, because the factory must grow.

Talking point: What are you playing this weekend?

Kingdom: New lands. I have no idea what I'm doing, and I keep dying horribly. But you know... Still going.
Also, Elder Scrolls online, Via proton. Just because I am thoroughly enjoying the fishing...

Man. I still think EVERYONE should try Doki Doki. Don't read reviews or anything, certainly don't watch other people. Just play it through.

I might be biased, I love visual novels in general. I still think it's one of those things people should experience.

I personally quite like the voting aspect. But I'd be really curious to see what the various established members here have to say, and how it differs from the vote. Maybe a bit of both? Have the public vote, but then have a more internal vote from the regular posters? It'd be interesting to see the differences.
