This War Of Mine Is Bleak, Interesting & Difficult, Our Thoughts
18 Nov 2014 at 11:21 pm UTC

Quoting: edgleyIt's really not though -- you can easily miss click and move someone (who was sleeping or building or whatever).

There aren't any keyboard shortcuts as far as I can tell; I suppose because this is an Android game.
It is a bit riskier yes, but easy to overcome. It is easier because it gives more precision and control (like speed/direction control) in your movements.
The white text is indeed a pain though.

The first thing I noticed is that the game badly needs keyboard scrolling with WASD. Having to point my cursor to the edges of the screen constantly to looking around was a fair bit annoying
You can grab the screen with the mouse though and drag it around. Is even easier than with WASD.

Kyle Pittman From Minor Key Games Talks About Low Linux Sales, And More
17 Nov 2014 at 11:37 am UTC

Quoting: kevieThis also shows that Linux gamers are becoming a bit more frugal with their money, back in the days before the Humble Bundles etc most Linux gamers (myself included) would buy a game simply because it had been ported to Linux, regardless of the quality (I think I own the majority of the LGP boxed games.) But now you have to stand out in a marketplace that isn't crowded, but there are certainly more traders selling their wares than there were previously. I'm into retro gaming personally, I saw this title when it was released, but it didn't appeal to me. It is simply that the game has a limited market and a sign of the times: Linux gamers are now becoming more discerning in their purchases.
Indeed, I was more willing to throw money for Linux games just as a sign of appreciation sometimes. I bought games that I never played or tried (and I knew that before buying them).
We were indeed more generous (and still are) but it was a sign of these exciting new times for us after years of "starvation".
But now I have options, lots of them, and I have to pick carefully since I don't have a money tree in my backyard.
(I don't even have a backyard)

Ultimate General: Gettysburg, A Tactical Battle Simulator, Released For Linux With A Big Patch

But as (almost) always there is this lack of advertising for Linux people.
Yes, there is an announcement on their store page, but I don't see it anywhere else. ex: http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/ [External Link]

If a game has simultaneous Win/Linux release (ex: This War of Mine) that's fine. But if the game was already released for Win a while ago, tough chance.
If you go to Steam and narrow everything down to Linux and new releases you'll find Gettysburg on page 5.

Steam needs a page with "newly released for Linux" games regardless when they were released for other platforms.

(good thing we have this site and Steamdb)

Dead Island Zombie Game Now Available On Linux For Some (updated)
27 Oct 2014 at 12:40 am UTC

Quoting: EKRboiI have rarely found a game that runs better on Linux than it does in windows...
I can only think of one: Doom 3.
I played about third of it in Windows when it was released back in 2004 and just a bit later on it was also available for Linux.
The Linux version was at least as good as the Windows one. It allowed me to raise settings to a point where Windows would choke but it would still working in Linux.

It was probably the same thing with Quake4, but that one I played it only in Linux, so I wouldn't know for sure.
But that was back then when ID loved us.

Dead Island Zombie Game Now Available On Linux For Some (updated)

Quoting: SamsaiI went through the binary using a hex editor and there aren't any mentions of VP, eON or Wine for that matter. So I believe it's safe to say it's a native port.

The credits file (found in the Data3.pak) mentions three people for Linux support: Tomasz Wachowski, Rafał Wróbel, Wojciech Zeler. Rafał Wróbel's LinkedIn profile says he worked in Techland doing Linux game porting. So I guess Techland made the port after all, even though they told us they weren't working on the game anymore: http://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/the-dead-island-linux-port-is-not-being-done-by-the-orginal-developers.4313

I believe the mystery is solved now.
I think Tomasz Wachowski is our guy.
You can see some paths like ...home/tomwa/Downloads/steam-runtime-SDK... in that binary, and he also works for Techland as Junior game programmer.

So Tomasz and others, thank you.
