Interesting choice of engines, well, Source 2 was a given, but Unity? Wonder why...

Is also the game that restored my faith in the Unity engine, because it doesn't look at all like the usual "Unity graphics" we often see, and instead the landscapes/graphics/soundtrack (remember the level when you learn how to skip across the water?) are just amazing.
Even Jim Sterling the sob that he is was mesmerized by it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W3NkTTFOos [External Link]

Quoting: scaineIt is superb indeed, and the freedom feeling that you get while playing it is unmatched by any other game that I played (at least recently). Sometimes I fire it up and just run and jump around giving life to everything and enjoying the rush. Game exploration at its best.Quoting: dubigrasuEqually surprised and disappointed that Valley isn't anywhere among the winners.Valley was superb. I'm pretty sure I added it an entrant, but given the competition, it maybe just didn't stand out in any one particular area strongly enough to make the listings? It's a shame, because as a whole, it's a fantastic game. I'll be replaying it in the near future - especially now that the latest patch lets you skip the cut-scenes.
Probably for most people the game went well bellow the radar, although it was mentioned here few times.
Do yourself a favor and try it, is been a while since I was so surprised by a game.

If released by VP for Linux, it will be available for every Linux user (or Steam Machine owner) out there.

Quoting: sonicOk, why not. But since this game runs in Wine [External Link] pretty well (Platinum rating), its not so necessary to port this one by VP, who just wrap the game.As it is now the game is only available for those willing to deal with Wine.

ARK: Survival Evolved plans to use Vulkan for Linux this year

Quoting: GuestOhhh, I'm sure it is getting it soon. Unity should have a stable version out with the Vulkan renderer around March. I can't believe UE4 is far behind...Well, there is one already for UE4 but Windows only and doesn't seem to work that well yet. On both engines is still experimental, but the Unity one already works pretty good on both Windows and Linux. Although that coming from me doesn't mean much or anything. I'm not a game dev and all I did was fiddle around with some free projects from their stores.

Quoting: GuestHm, bummer then. I assumed that UE4 itself is soon getting the Vulkan renderer.Quoting: dubigrasuThat's pretty huge indeed, not only for ARK, but for future UE4 titles. If I understand it correctly, the Ark engine is UE4 but they haven't upgraded it in a long time. They have modified the engine so heavily that updates from UE4 aren't really feasible at this stage in it's development. From what I understand they do any and all updating and programming for new features like this themselves....
Last time I checked UE4 there was an experimental Vulkan option only for Windows.
Hopefully Vulkan will succeed where UE4's OpenGL still has issues and devs will have the incentive to use it (even if we're talking about Windows-only titles that can be later played with Wine).
....
Come to think about it...is not only about future titles but older ones as well. Some other older titles we'd like to see on Linux (I keep thinking about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter) might get to use Vulkan and even get a Linux release.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiT?!Quoting: dubigrasuDamn, in no way I can play it at Ultra at that res with my card, not even on Windows. My card is getting old it seems...You, my friend, got owned by VSYNC: Of course you can't have more than 60 FPS I'd VSYNC is enabled.
The performance is indeed very close to Windows though, I didn't even bothered to try the OpenGL renderer, went directly to Vulkan:

There is some stutter in the video mostly because the RAM went bust on my recording PC and is now swapping a lot, but the game itself performs really well.
