Great performance for me on SteamOS with a GTX 780; most of the time well above 100 FPS with occasional drops to 80.
On SteamOS default BPM the game runs perfectly, but when tried in Desktop mode I had the same issues as described by [email protected] above and others on Steam, namely just a black screen.

Quoting: slaapliedjeSome thoughts; Are we sure the game isn't capped at 100fps? I mean if it never dips below that and never goes above it, my guess would be it's capped.It is capped at 120 FPS.
You can play controversial FPS 'Daikatana' on Linux now, thanks to a fan patch endorsed by John Romero

Well, got the game from GOG and added the patch. The game is running well and I had no issues so far. Not sure what to say about the game itself.
It looks very old obviously and if you didn't like it back then probably you won't like it now even with the recent improvements.
But, too early to tell.

It was mentioned in the installation guide:

If you get the game from Steam you'll have to download it with Windows (Wine) or steamcmd, whereas from GOG you can just direct download it. I suppose that's why GOG is recommended.
Other than that is exactly the same thing.

Quoting: PicoboomAh, sorry.Quoting: dubigrasuInteresting, I suppose it works with any version of the game (Steam/GOG)?Interesting information, dubibrasu, but recommended by whom exactly? Would you (or anyone else) provide a link to your GoG quote, please. I'm wondering at what the rationale behind the quoted recommendation was. Was it a matter of hardware? DRM conflict? Or authorial ethics?
Edit: OK, I found that is better to use the GOG version:
If you don't own Daikatana already, the recommended way to obtain it is on GOG.com, especially when you're not using Windows.
Otherwise, this sounds like it's easily worth a few bucks, provided the kinks have been worked out. I'll wait on the patch's release, though.
Thanks

Quoting: liamdaweOK, I wanted to make sure. I watched a bunch of gameplays and was not really impressed by what I saw.Quoting: dubigrasuI know is not for Linux, but anyone of you ever played the Battleborn single player campaign? Is even remotely similar with what we have on Borderlands?Tested the beta on PS4 myself and found it quite boring. Nothing like Borderlands to me.
Thanks.

Virtual Programming tease the Overlord Linux port in a new video

When the textures are changing by themselves, the config file is altered as well (from 4 to 2 etc) ? Maybe you could edit it as you wish and make it read only?
Anyway, the game/port itself can use Ultra textures, that's for sure, why doesn't work for you is a mystery.
Here are all texture settings and the differences between them (concentrate on that small billboard on the left):

The settings were applied from the game menus like described above.

Quoting: liamdaweWell, that's weird...Quoting: dubigrasuLike I have already explained, no matter the setting it will revert down to Low. I can see it with my own eyes when textures change.Quoting: liamdaweI have tried everything, trust me. Even if I managed to get it on Ultra by fiddling so it appears, it will show for a moment and then revert down to Low again.Yes, but it doesn't matter what you see in the menu, (it will still show Low/Standard/Whatever), ignore that.
Like I said, once you applied Ultra from "Overall Quality" despite what is displayed in the menus the Ultra setting will be written to the config file, and that's what matters.
If you want to make sure, set everything as you want and then edit manually the config file with:
Low = 0
Standard = 1
High = 2
VeryHigh = 3
Ultra = 4

The game can use all textures including "Ultra" but you need to set them from the "Overall Quality" presets (not from detailed settings). Once you click OK (after you select Ultra) you can go back and customize everything else (without touching again the textures settings).
The "Textures" settings in the menus will still display "Standard" or whatever textures, (beats me why it does that) but you can check the config file ...local/share/bohemiainteractive/arma3/GameDocuments/Arma 3/Player.Arma3Profile and you'll see "textureQuality=4" (Ultra).
(You can obviously edit manually this file as well.)

Arma 3 for example refuses to use any textures above Low, and 99% of the time it's the only option I can pick and they have no idea what's causing it.This is more like a bug within the menus section of the game.
